What can a candidate expect during the interview process?

by Christopher on March 05, 2009

For many people interviews can be a daunting experience, but with a little preparation and insight into UnitedHealth Group’s interview process your experience can be enjoyable. The interview process at UnitedHealth Group will vary a little throughout the organization but will always begin with a recruiter. More likely than not this conversation will be over the phone this will give you a chance to learn more about the opportunity you have applied for and UnitedHealth Group as an organization. The recruiter will review your skill-set, professional experience, and career goals with you to get a better feel for your level of expertise and see if there is a match to what is currently open. If there is a match your resume and profile will be forwarded on to the hiring manager.

Expect your first interview with the hiring manager to be over the phone, this interview will be a little bit more in-depth. Be prepared to discuss your experience and specific accomplishments to give the interviewer a better perspective to the level of your knowledge.

If things proceed from there, an in-person interview will be arranged with the hiring manager and others that you will potentially be working with. Your recruiter should be able to tell you how the time will be structured and how long you should prepare to be there. Take advantage of this time to find out more about the environment you would be working in and whom you would be working with.

What should a candidate wear or bring to an interview?

by Christopher on March 12, 2009

What to wear?

You should plan on dressing to impress. Both men and women should wear a business suit. Remember a first impression goes a long way!

What to bring with?

Always bring extra copies of your resume; it’s a good practice to have extras on hand. Also bring a notebook and something to write with so you can take notes during your interview. It never hurts to be overly prepared!! If it applies, you may also think about bringing samples of your work.

What type of interview questions should candidates expect?

by Christopher on March 20, 2009

Behavioral interviews give us a better opportunity to assess how you may perform on the job as related to your past experiences. Be prepared for our managers to ask you some behavioral type interview questions. These are questions where you will be asked about a situation from your past or current experience and how you dealt with it. Be as specific as possible with your answer and describe how you reacted to the situation, how you dealt with it, and how you worked through it. Be honest, if you didn't like the way you handled a situation then tell the interviewer how you learned from that experience and would possibly do things differently the next time.
