Job Summary
The Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading group exercise classes by conducting safe, effective and enjoyable exercise classes to a senior citizen population. This position is responsible for supporting member wellness and maintaining a positive public image of the Health Plan through effective fitness programs designed to improve the overall health of participating members
Essential Job Functions
1. Provides safe group fitness classes with a variety of movements to senior citizen populations.
2. Prepares and organizes for group instruction classes by ensuring class venues and required equipment are available.
3. Collaborates with the Fitness Instructor Trainer to develop and facilitate aerobic classes targeting specific exercise goals.
4. Partners with the Program Development Specialists to market fitness programs to target senior populations within assigned market(s).
5. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Required Education, Experience & Skills
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
Current adult CPR certification required.
Must be able and capable to lead a group exercise class while being alert and aware of signs of exercise-induced distress.
Must be dependable, punctual and have good verbal and written communication skills.
Must have the ability and willingness to travel as determined by business needs.
Preferred Education, Experience & Skills
1-2 years of experience teaching a group exercise class.
Specialty certifications in yoga for seniors, Pilates, Zumba Gold, line dancing and water aerobics.
Current Group fitness certification through American Council of Exercise (ACE), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) or Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFFA).
Physical & Mental Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to push or pull heavy objects using up to 50 pounds of force
Ability to sit for extended periods of time
Ability to stand for extended periods of time
Ability to use fine motor skills to operate office equipment and/or machinery
Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing
Ability to use logical reasoning for simple and complex problem solving
