Position Description:
 
Responsibilities will include development, refinement, and implementation of algorithms for document segmentation, lexical analysis, natural language parsing, and conceptual indexing. Work will involve all aspects of software design and development from system requirements definition to integration and testing, as well as implementing system requirements for complex customer systems where necessary and/or preparing studies to analyze existing systems. An NLP Engineer reports to the Manager of NLP Development.
 
Work will involve the development, enhancement, and maintenance of complex NLP software, with thorough documentation of sophisticated algorithms and procedures.
 
This position will work closely with medical language linguists to develop techniques for state-of-the-art medical NLP.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Computational Linguistics, Computer Science, or a Computational Linguistics-related discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience in Natural Language Processing and Software Development
  • 2+ years of strong programming skills in C++, C#, or Java  with strong experience in object-oriented design and development.
  • 2+ years of Natural Language Processing: experience with symbolic and statistical methods, experience in two or more sub-specialties such as development and analysis of large text corpora, information extraction, named entity recognition, text preprocessing, morphology, ontological reasoning, and semantic or grammatical disambiguation.

Assets:

  • Experience with Lex/Yacc, ANTLR or other parser generator framework.
  • Experience with XML and XSLT
  • Experience with Python or Perl

  • Able to communicate well with colleagues with widely varying areas of expertise.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Physical and Time Related Job Requirements:

  • Limited travel is required for this position.
  • Third-level support of operations outside of normal business hours with occasional work outside of normal business hours required.
  • Performing the responsibilities of this position requires the following physical demands: regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and hear; occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
