  • Summary: 
  • The Product Director will have accountability for creating a product / solution vision for the OptumInsight data platform. He/she will also oversee the delivery of solutions within the platform- on time, on budget, and of high quality and value.
  • The data platform vision will be driven by proactive market intelligence and awareness of evolving market problems and how OptumInsight data and technology assets can address these problems. This vision will also need to align with the overall OptumInsight vision for analytics to In addition, this position will be accountable for monitor solution performance in the marketplace (internal and external), constantly working to increase business utilization (Sales/IOI), quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • The ideal candidate will be a true product evangelist with experience in the healthcare and life sciences industries. He/she will create passion, excitement and results in others; speak at client, sales and industry conferences; and is acknowledged as a product thought leader by the market.
  • The position is responsible for creating, managing and adapting market driven product roadmaps for the development and launch of new and existing solutions. He/she will ensure that OptumInsight has a diverse portfolio of best-in-class solutions through identification of the product strategy and market requirements for current and future products by coordinating market research, competitive analysis and capturing requirements from customers and prospects.
  • This individual will be able to clearly discuss and communicate product value and benefits to customers, prospects, and partners.

    Initial Solution Portfolio
  • OptumInsight National Health Informatics Database - Longitudinal de-identified repository of administrative health records for 75M individuals over 10+ years. Foundational asset that supports numerous applications (InVision, Natural History of Disease, and other emerging products) as well as services for health economics and outcomes research, epidemiology and general healthcare consulting.
  • Data Technology Foundational Services - Technology tools, technologies and delivery models for data intake, integration, and provisioning.
  • Virtual Hippocratic Database - technology used within CMS consulting program to support a federated multi-Payer claims database


Critical Success Factors:

  • Strong leadership and executive presence in order to evangelize the product vision and value proposition to internal and external audiences, including sales, analysts, customers and prospects
  • Excellent influencing and collaboration skills to develop and implement successful solution development, working with all departments for successful execution.
  • Keen business sense to assess and prioritize tradeoffs that affect features, schedule, cost, positioning, pricing and competitive positioning.
  • Proven track record of on time, on budget product delivery

    Responsibilities:
  • Grow the business
  • Identify new areas for product development by analyzing customer requirements, market trends and competitive gaps. Direct the preparation of business cases for new product initiatives and work with key business leaders, technology engineering, IT, and finance to develop ROI / payback and projected timelines for delivery.
  • Research and analyze cross-industry best practices to continually shape and improve OptumInsight's position and offerings. Analyze the marketplace, customers, and competitors to determine the right features to bring to market along with overall feature prioritization
  • Identify best-of-breed companies as potential partners and/or vendors to elevate OptumInsight's processes, products and service offerings. Continue to build OptumInsight's brand externally.
  • Ensure regular updates to the product roadmap and constantly analyze new product requirements/opportunities.
  • Monitor the product life cycle from inception through operation and maintenance; ensure consistency with the strategic vision and market/customer requirements.


    Manage the business
  • Monitor and analyze product sales performance and progress of new product adoption in the marketplace.
  • Work with Sales and Account Management team on strategies to win new clients and renew existing client contracts.
  • Work with subject matter experts, engineering and development teams to execute on the roadmap in line with the strategic vision for the product lines.
  • Collaborate with appropriate Marketing and Sales Support to develop marketing and competitive analysis and solicits client feedback to gain insight on products, performance and needs. Direct the development of proof of concepts, demos, etc. to support Sales.
  • Manage a group of product management professionals effectively to achieve corporate goals
  • Develop go-to-market strategies, pricing, launch plans, PR plans working with Marketing, and Finance.
  • Design and implement Client Advisory Board Programs; lead an ongoing client feedback process and incorporate input into product development process.
  • Provide trend analysis/review of projects, outputs/solutions ongoing to senior leadership and makes recommendation on solutions to leadership as part of strategy development process
  • Monitor and review team outputs for multiple teams and recommends changes to resource utilization to improve efficiency
  • Recommends methodologies for and drives conflict resolution and issues between multiple teams or team members
  • Ensure that quality and performance standards are established and measured with improvement goals developed.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in business, marketing, or a related field is strongly preferred. In addition, the individual must have demonstrated exceptional performance in a product management role and have 15+ years experience.
  • Healthcare technology and/or Life Sciences experience a must.
  • Leading edge thinking and risk taking is required. This individual shall possess the leadership skills to influence others in a matrix organization and infuse them with a passion for the proposed products and services.
  • Prefer strong understanding of relational databases/data warehousing, business intelligence tools and risk adjustment methodologies
  • Ability to think spontaneously, exude confidence (cool under fire), respond quickly and effectively deflect any negative perceptions.
  • Ability to think strategically and execute tactically.
  • Demonstrated experience working with broad cross-functional teams with ability to sell ideas and plans to internal constituencies, executives, customers, commercial team, analysts, and partners.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and group presentation skills.
  • Must be able to effectively maintain/build relationship across business groups.
  • Ability and willingness to travel - to support select sales and speaking opportunities.
