Description
The Underwriting Consultant is responsible to achieve profit, growth, service and expense objectives through the financial analysis and management of a complex book of business. Primary responsibilities of this position include:
- Devises and directly negotiates complex financial arrangements and settlements, as required, with client officers and personnel in local and national brokerage firms
- Obtains policyholder and consultant acceptance of expense and reserve levels necessary to achieve planned expense recovery and underwriting gain objectives
- Underwrites a number of new firms or new coverage and major benefit revisions in support of sales targets and objectives
- Develops and maintains excellent policyholder, producer and field relations
- Advises customer on benefit design, legislative requirements, alternate financial arrangements and industry trends
- Provides direction to other areas in resolving service or claim issues that have financial implications
- Participate in underwriting projects. Serve as mentor to other underwriters
- Monitor trends and identify the need for new or revised procedures and practices
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree
- 3-5 years of health insurance financial underwriting experience
- Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
- Good organizational skills
- Ability to be flexible with changing priorities
