How do I apply?
Now that you’ve found open positions, it’s time to start applying. Here are a few things to keep in mind when looking to join us:
- Ensure you meet ALL of the minimum qualifications and MOST of the preferred qualifications for your desired position.
- Once you’ve selected a position of interest, click on the “Click Here to Apply” button. Complete the application process by filling out your profile and uploading a current resume. You can find some helpful resume building tips here.
- Review your application, and click “Submit”.
- You can return to your profile at any time to check the status of your application.
- Don't forget to Network With Us! You will receive monthly emails from your area of interest regarding the latest updates from UnitedHealth Group.
If you are having technical difficulty with any of the above, please contact the help desk at 1-800-561-0861 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. CT, Monday - Friday for assistance.
Quick Tip: After you’ve submitted your application, you will be prompted to answer some qualifying questions. These questions will vary depending on the position. For example, if you are applying for a Nurse Practitioner career, we will need to know that you are licensed. If applying for a customer service or call center position, you will be required to take an assessment test at this time. If you pass the assessment, you may be contacted for a phone interview and possible second on-site (local location) or on-line assessment. If you do not pass the assessment, there is a six month waiting period before you can take the test again.

What happens after I apply?
You will receive an automated email confirming your submission; be sure to check your "junk mail" folders for this confirmation as well. Please know that some opportunities with UnitedHealth Group get a very high volume of applicants so the selection process may take some time. Individuals who are selected and have best met ALL of the basic requirements of a position may receive a pre-screening phone interview with a recruiter.
Pre-screening phone call
If selected, you will receive a phone call from a recruiter. Treat this as your first interview! You can find interviewing tips here. If you are not selected, you will be notified via email. We encourage you to continue searching open positions and applying for those that match your skill set.
I've made it through a pre-screening call, now what?
After your pre-screening phone call with a recruiter, you may be contacted for a follow-up, in-person or second phone interview. If chosen, a hiring manager or recruiter will contact you as to your availability.
For telecommuting positions, this may consist of another phone interview. Be sure you are just as prepared for this interview as you would be for an in-person meeting!
Digital Interviewing Now Available! UnitedHealth Group is now conducting digital interviews for a small number of positions. This innovative technology is sponsored by Hirevue and provides recruiters with another way to interview candidates. If selected for a digital interview, further instruction will be provided, as well as access to Hirevue.
Quick Tip: If you are applying for a customer service or call center position, a second online or on-site assessment will be required after your phone interview. If you pass the assessment, you may be contacted for a second interview with a hiring manager. If you do not pass the assessment, you will need to wait six months before taking the assessment test again. You will be notified promptly after your second assessment as to the status of your interviewing process.
After I've met with a hiring manager, how will I know if I'm hired?
A hiring manager will be in touch to either extend you a verbal offer or let you know you are no longer considered for the position.
Your offer will be contingent on a background check, drug screening, and any other necessary tests. A confirmation of this offer will be mailed to you, including instructions and information about the background check and screening process.
Quick Tip: If you are selected as part of our class based hires for customer service and call centers, be sure the dates and times of the class fit your schedule. Your recruiter or hiring manager will inform you of these dates and times.
I've passed all necessary tests and approved my offer.
If all tests are passed and offers are approved, you are an employee of UnitedHealth Group. Your hiring manager or recruiter will convey further details such as start dates, benefits packages, and first day to-do items.
Congratulations and welcome to UnitedHealth Group!
