Position Description

The Director, Solution Design, position will provide expertise and specialist skills in the area of behavioral health strategy with the aim of creating value, maximizing growth and / or improving the business performance of existing clients. This individual will actively participate in client opportunity management, including engaging with new business on opportunity evaluation, contributing to go / no-go discussions, facilitating development of operational models responsive to client requirements, drafting proposal language to represent new models / functionality and transitioning opportunities to implementation for execution. This role interfaces with E2E operational SMEs, as well as coordinating development of complex client solutions in partnership with enterprise-wide business segments (i.e. PHMI, Rx, Optum Insight). The position leverages in-depth quantitative / analytic skills, deep knowledge of specific markets, and understanding of key business objectives.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Anticipates customer needs and proactively develops solutions to meet them
  • Serves as a key resource on complex and / or critical issues
  • Solves complex problems and develops innovative solutions
  • Performs complex conceptual analyses
  • Reviews work performed by others and provides recommendations for improvement
  • Forecasts and plans resource requirements
  • Authorizes deviations from standards
  • May lead functional or segment teams or projects
  • Provides explanations and information to others on the most complex issues
  • Motivates and inspires other team members
  • Evaluate new business opportunities for alignment against existing business / clinical process and to identify opportunities / gaps requiring further development
  • Assess client information - including claims, pre-sales analysis, proposal materials  to generate insights and recommendations
  • Translate customer business needs (operational, financial, clinical) into scalable, actionable operational solutions
  • Engage and guide E2E functional SMEs in developing solutions to delight customers while meeting financial, business and clinical goals
  • Apply knowledge of appropriate standards and designs to create consistent solutions, leveraging existing capabilities wherever possible
  • Supply input to the development of projected managed care savings, where applicable
  • As necessary, serve as solution SME in client meetings
  • Assist leadership in projecting future opportunities and outcomes
  • Provide input / communications back to product development / management on potential innovations and new market opportunities identified through proposal solutioning
  • Focus is on all lines of business (commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid) nation-wide geographies
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 5+ years healthcare / health plan or related experience
  • Prior experience integrating multiple products / approaches /business segments to provide solutions to client requests
  • Cross-functional project coordination experience utilizing matrix resources to design complex solutions
  • Knowledge and comfort with external factors (regulatory, competitive) that might influence the solution
  • Ability to engage with all levels of customer, including C-suite
  • Capable of managing a variety of complex issues while driving forward momentum of key projects and proposals
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (esp. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio)
  • Travel up to 25%
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Deep knowledge of Medicaid market
  • Solution design experience in behavioral health industry
  • Public sector (Medicare / Medicaid) and / or behavioral health experience
  • Knowledge of Optum programs and operations
  • Located within a commutable distance to Eden Prairie
