We are seeking a Senior Strategic Account Executive to oversee strategic development and plan performance for one of OptumRx’s largest commercial clients. This highly visible role will be responsible for developing and executing on OptumRx’s business strategy in collaboration with OptumHealth, UHC and other UHG business partners across the enterprise for achieving financial and strategic execution objections for this client.  This role will interact with senior leadership for the client and across the enterprise in representing OptumRx’s solutions and capabilities.  The ideal candidate will be a seasoned client management executive with a deep understanding of PBM and proven track record of success in strategic planning, relationship development, contract management and negotiations.

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Identify and develop strategic opportunities to deliver on an integrated UHG enterprise service model to deliver on financial commitments, enhance client satisfaction and improve the member experience
  • Develop relationships with key client stakeholders to understand their unique needs to provide solutions that deliver on their financial and plan objectives
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop tailored strategic initiatives 
  • Keep the organization informed of the client’s requirements, product and benefit objectives, financial expectations and performance and other knowledge essential for achieving the client’s goals and act as a change agent for the organization as needed
  • Develop a positive working relationship with the extended UHG enterprise team to demonstrate an integrated team approach when showing up for the client
  • Oversee contract compliance and negotiations for the pharmacy benefit related items, ensuring the successful execution of contract service delivery including audits, service level agreements (SLAs), and renewal
  • Participate in market check processes and client renewals, providing strategic insights and recommendations to drive client retention
  • Identify and capitalize on opportunities for cost avoidance, offering innovative solutions to enhance client satisfaction and operational efficiency
  • Provide oversight and guidance on client implementations, contract changes, renewals, and addendums
  • Develop and maintain key internal and matrix relationships across ORx, UHC and Optum including senior level engagement and regular briefings on the client and advancement of the integrated model 
  • Lead reporting efforts for client’s pharmacy benefit and deliver data analytics, such as Quarterly Performance Reviews (QPR), to facilitate informed decision-making and enhance client engagement
  • Provide operational oversight, identifying opportunities to optimize operational effectiveness
  • Effectively represents UHG Culture and demonstrates UHG values internally and externally

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in PBM account management, demonstrating a successful track record in client management and retention
  • 5+ years of experience leading upsells and growth activities, with a demonstrated ability to identify and capitalize on business opportunities
  • 5+ years of experience developing project plan, project timelines, project team driving through completion
  • Proficiency in utilizing PBM tools to create marketing materials, responding to requests for proposals (RFPs), and generate financial and data reports
  • Proven excellent executive-level communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts and strategies
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time to meet client needs and attend relevant industry events

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing national and / or strategic accounts
  • Experience reading, interpreting and negotiating contract terms
  • Experience navigating through system enhancements or installations
  • Experience working with RxClaim
  • Experience working cross-functionally within a matrix environment
  • Proven ability to exhibit leadership through influencing without authority
  • Proven ability to work in a self-motivated environment with limited supervision

The salary range for this role is $106,800 to $194,200 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
