As a senior executive, the Infrastructure Engineering Leader will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing all aspects of cloud, AI engineering enablement and platform development & delivery. The leader will align the technology vision with business strategy by integrating company processes with the appropriate technologies and partnering with senior stakeholders across the organization.

 

 

This critical leadership role is integral in delivering on our cloud modernization transformation and bolstering our security posture. The position reports to the CTO/SVP of Optum Technology’s Enterprise Technology, Infrastructure, Platforms and Services (ETIPS) function. ETIPS is responsible for an AI First approach to increasing public cloud adoption, modernizing on-prem storage, networking, contact center platform, enhancing the digital workplace experience and the integration of acquired entities.

 

 

This leader will be passionate about fully leveraging AI to improve our speed to market, scale & innovation in the cloud, driving security and operational best practices. They will help define the enterprise-wide system design, platforms, and technology choices enabling cloud architecture and engineering.

Primary Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Lead the continuing strategic transformation from on-premises data centers to the cloud

  • Formulate migration plans to transfer data, applications, etc. to a cloud computing environment efficiently, securely, and in-line with customer service level agreements.

  • Define, build, and deliver a comprehensive AI infrastructure strategy and roadmap in alignment with UnitedHealth Group’s business goals, ensuring engineering excellence and accountability

  • Partner with CIOs and Executive Business sponsors to influence and drive an AI-driven infrastructure agenda, focusing on AI innovation and high-value use cases

  • Establish and maintain relationships with key vendors and service providers, negotiate large complex enterprise contracts and ensure service level agreements are met

  • Build executable plans for migration of technologies and assets to support necessary infrastructure modernization, security and integration objectives on time and in budget

  • Creatively provide resolution to technical problems in a cost-effective and timely manner

  • Architect and implement enterprise-level IT systems and processes using industry best practices, with a focus on availability, stability, scalability and security optimization

  • Forge strong working relationships based on trust, collaboration, confidence and mutual respect

Required Qualifications:

 

 

 

  • 15+ years of experience running critical technology infrastructure with high resiliency, availability, scalability and security at massive scale

  • 5 + years serving in a senior leadership role leading large scale, complex Cloud Transformation initiatives

  • Proven track record of success as an innovative thought leader and partner to executives in global organizations  

  • Demonstrated ability to articulate complex AI concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Experience designing, developing, and deploying AI-powered solutions to address complex business challenges with emphasis on responsible use of AI

  • Experience identifying and removing organizational and operational barriers to accelerate AI implementation and lead others through change in a dynamic, fast-paced industry and work environment

  • Track record of success providing clear, balanced counsel on a broad range of strategic, complex organizational and technology topics

  • Results-oriented style with a high degree of EQ and analytical abilities

  • History of thriving in and quickly adapting to & leading others through change   

  • Experience recruiting, developing and inspiring a top-tier leadership team

  • Prior experience leading a global team of 500 technologists (through other leaders)

  • Proven knowledge of financial P&L management  

  • Willing & able to travel 25% on a sustained basis

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $225,000 to $375,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
