The Legacy Network Engineering team plays a critical role in supporting the integration of acquired entities into Optum while maintaining the stability and performance of legacy network environments. This role focuses on maintaining accurate network documentation, tuning and managing network monitoring systems, and supporting the engineering team through change implementation and incident response. The analyst will work closely with senior engineers to ensure network health, maintain inventory, and assist with troubleshooting efforts across diverse infrastructures.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Monitoring and Visibility
- Maintain, configure, and tune network monitoring tools to ensure accurate performance and availability insights
- Integrate new devices and sites into monitoring platforms and optimize alert behavior
- Inventory and Documentation
- Maintain accurate network inventory, diagrams, and documentation aligned to team standards
- Validate asset data and support lifecycle tracking for hardware and software
- Operations and Support
- Perform first-level and intermediate troubleshooting across routers, switches, firewalls, wireless, and load balancing platforms
- Participate in incident response, including rotational after-hours support
- Standards and Compliance
- Support adherence to network security standards, policies, and configuration baselines
- Assist with vulnerability remediation and compliance-driven updates across legacy environments
- Change Implementation
- Execute planned network changes following established procedures and validate post-change health
- Prepare configurations, updates, and onboarding tasks under guidance from senior engineers
- Collaboration and Communication
- Work with senior network engineers to support integration, standardization, and operational projects
- Communicate status, issues, and updates effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regard to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). The Company may adopt, vary or rescind these policies and directives in its absolute discretion and without any limitation (implied or otherwise) on its ability to do so
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in network operations or analysis
- – Experience with common platforms (Cisco, Aruba, Palo Alto, F5, etc.)
- Understanding of routing/switching fundamentals (OSPF, BGP, VLANs, STP)
- Familiarity with monitoring or management tools (NNMi, Cacti, SolarWinds, Splunk, Panorama, etc.)
- Ability to participate in a 24/7 support rotation
- Solid documentation and analytical skills
- Technical Proficiency
- Routing & Switching fundamentals
- Basic firewall and VPN knowledge
- WLAN troubleshooting familiarity
- Experience with SNMP, NetFlow, dashboard, and alert tuning
Preferred Qualifications:
- Scripting familiarity (Python, PowerShell, Ansible)
- Cloud networking exposure (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Understanding of SD‑WAN and centralized management
- Knowledge of ITIL or structured change management processes
