Under minimal supervision, this position will provide expert level experience in repair and calibration, and maintenance of medical equipment, instrumentation and support systems used in healthcare delivery. Execute inventory assessment/audits and preventive maintenance checks of medical equipment and supplies. Provide remedial corrective maintenance and maintain documentation of all service events, tests, and maintenance performed on clinical equipment. Individuals will maintain good personal relationships with fellow workers, nursing, medical staff, vendors, manufacturers, and the public. Individuals will be expected to participate in meetings. seminars. training. workshops. and conferences as required. Will maintain a clean and safe workplace.

 

This role will require Bio-Medical technician to be available during all business hours. They must be prepared to respond to emergencies impacting Bio-Medical systems and participate with the Operations team to ensure timely renewal of service. This could include on-call services as well depending on the needs of the business.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Will participate and maintain a culture within The Corvallis Clinic consistent with the content outlined in the Service and Behavioral Standards document. To this end, employee will be expected to read, have familiarity, and embrace the principles contained within

Equipment Management:

  • Expedites immediate corrective action and/or reports problems to appropriate personnel of potential or actual safety hazards of clinical equipment as needed
  • Assists departments in capital equipment planning; assist in identifying and recommending replacement of equipment that is obsolete, has extensive repair history, or has identified safety issues
  • Repairs, installs, maintains, calibrates, and inspects complex medical equipment, instrumentation, and systems
  • Performs routine repairs, perform inspections and installations of medical equipment and tools
  • Performs preventive maintenance and electrical safety testing of clinical equipment and devices
  • Performs preventive maintenance and electrical safety testing of clinical equipment and devices
  • Recommends new equipment and testing procedures
  • Maintains documentation on new equipment, inspections, and equipment repairs and failures

Service Management:

  • Appropriately set priorities and organize routine and emergency tasks to best meet the changing demands of clinical services
  • Notifies departments regarding the status of repairs and work with departments to obtain loaner or replacement equipment as required
  • Works with departments to coordinate the availability of clinical equipment for preventive maintenance inspections
  • Reviews and monitor completion of preventive maintenance activities performed by outside vendors
  • Reviews the outcome of preventive maintenance actions and make recommendations to department staff concerning improvements
  • Maintains accurate inventory, tracking both the addition and the deactivation of clinical equipment.
  • Works with Procurement, IT, and Clinical departments on the purchasing process to ensure timely acquisition of equipment
  • Assists, manages, and monitors third-party repairs
  • Provides educational programs on the use of equipment to medical staff
  • Collaborating with Information Systems to ensure Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance and connectivity of biomedical devices
  • Understands and complies with applicable standards and regulations
  • Provides engineering and technical counsel on codes and other regulatory standards to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies
  • Provides support and management for all bio-medical services delivered by a vendor to the business (Med gases, etc.)

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in the repair and maintenance of medical equipment; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • A valid Oregon driver’s license with a good driving record, or the ability to obtain an Oregon driver’s license within 6 months from date of hire

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in electronics or biomedical equipment technology
  • Certification as a Biomedical Equipment Technician through the International Certification Commission

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Considerable knowledge of electronic circuitry and technical aspects of the operation, repair and maintenance of electronic equipment
  • Considerable knowledge of the application and repair of computers and servers and how they interface with medical equipment
  • Basic knowledge of networking theory
  • Considerable knowledge of current regulatory requirements
  • Substantial knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
  • Knowledge of color code conventions used in component and wiring marking
  • Ability to analyze, repair, and test electronic and electromechanical equipment
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance inspections
  • Ability to run diagnostic programs
  • Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams and illustrated parts drawings of biomedical instrumentation
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of repairs, calibration, and tests
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds of equipment; to push/pull equipment carts: and to kneel. stand, bend. and reach during equipment repair
  • Skill in testing electronic equipment
  • Skill in manual dexterity, hand-to-eye coordination, and color vision
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow workers, clinical and medical staff, and others they may encounter
  • Proficient in the relative logic of computer-based systems and network hardware interface
  • Ability to maintain neat and accurate records
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams and illustrated parts drawings of biomedical instrumentation
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow both written and oral instructions
  • Ability to read color codes on wiring and other electronic components
  • Ability to demonstrate competency in the use and operation of all required test equipment
  • Significant knowledge of codes, standards and compliance issues relating to the Biomedical Engineering profession
  • Considerable knowledge of the safety precautions applicable to the operation and maintenance of clinical equipment
  • Maintain extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and the application of biomedical instrumentation in clinical modalities and settings
  • Extensive knowledge of the clinical application of medical technologies and devices
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays if necessary

The hourly range for this role is $28.61 to $56.06 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
