Join OptumHealth’s national Quality and Patient Safety Team and lead the transformation of our proactive risk assessment adherence program. As the Director of the PRA Program, you will design and implement a comprehensive program to ensure all Optum Health businesses adhere to established safety standards, proactively assess compliance, and address non-adherence promptly. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on patient safety across various care settings, including ambulatory, ASC, specialty, behavioral health, and home care. This role reports to then National Vice President of Quality and Patient Safety.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Vision & Strategy: Develop and expand a scalable safety and quality adherence partnership program across Optum Health, incorporating feedback from stakeholders
  • Best Practices: Implement strategies to drive transparency, accountability, and adherence to safety standards
  • Expertise Development: Enhance the national PRA team’s expertise in clinical and operational solutions for diverse care settings to mitigate risks
  • Innovation: Evaluate and refine new safety strategies and adherence monitoring techniques
  • Resource Allocation: Develop productivity and capacity reporting for staffing and assure all resourced are distributed to achieve priorities, goals and strategy; deploying the resources that best enable the team to do their work
  • Strategic Planning: Create and execute an operational annual plan to accomplish the identified and aligned QPS strategies; Identify and track annual initiatives, monitor and measure progress to plan using meaningful KPIs, provide real time and supportive and corrected feedback an assistance
  • People Manager: Develop and Lead a team of high performing Clinical Quality Consultants nurses to improve safety and quality through innovative change management strategies
  • Collaboration: Partner with all national QPS lanes to align and maximize the effectiveness as one integrated national QPS team for all initiatives
  • Conflict Management: Drive resolution of inevitable individual, team and business unit conflicts; offering assistance and direction moving to production resolution
  • Represent and Respond to Stakeholders: Build a network across the enterprise to influence and align key stakeholders toward a shared vision; Prepare and deliver presentations to foster relationships and align with critical stakeholders, recognizing and responding to their diverse needs
  • Safety Industry Methodolgies and Practice: Stay abreast of all surveying and quality improvement strategies (i.e. Joint Commission, AAAHC, IHI, AHRQ, etc.)

Required Qualifications:        

  • Clinical credentials (RN, PA, NP)
  • 8+ years of progressive roles in the healthcare industry, in a clinical care setting
  • 5+ years of experience managing and leading teams
  • Experience with change management techniques in health systems/medical groups
  • Experience in developing strategies for organizational change
  • Proven ability to take bold and decisive action to assure patient safety
  • Proven root-cause analysis expertise
  • Proven solution-focused problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Proven solid consultative skills with senior leaders
  • Proven commitment to UHG values: integrity, compassion, inclusion, relationships, performance, and innovation

  • Proven exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven self-starter with solid planning, organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills

The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
