Purpose of Job: The Vice President, Employer Sales will be responsible for driving growth in our Employer business. This role requires an understanding of the healthcare and financial services and a proven track record in sales leadership. Success in this role requires an understanding of the competitive landscape and the ability to formulate a winning go-to-market strategy across a range of related products and services. This position is also an important executive point of contact for key strategic employer clients. This position is charged with hiring, motivating and retaining a top-performing sales organization, including developing and executing strategic plans to achieve industry-leading growth. The VP, Employer Sales is accountable for the Employer portfolio working directly with customers and internal and external partners to deliver on customer commitments. Where appropriate, the VP, Employer Sales will work with team members across both Optum and UnitedHealthcare to align on customer plans and priorities.

Major Responsibilities:
•    Develop and implement a comprehensive sales strategy to achieve revenue targets and product/market expansion goals.
•    Lead, mentor, and manage a high-performing sales team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
•    Create go-to-market strategies for product line expansions, building new relationships with key stakeholders in the employer market.
•    Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, product development, and customer support, to ensure alignment and drive customer satisfaction.
•    Analyze market trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape to inform sales strategies and tactics.
•    Prepare and present sales forecasts, reports, and performance metrics to the executive team. 
•    Build, nurture and grow consultative relationships with key Employer clients to understand the client’s strategy and business needs. Constantly assesses the value that Optum Financial solutions are delivering.
•    Lead team members across the matrix to develop approaches that increase the value we provide and increase the impact UnitedHealth Group overall has on the client’s business.
•    In partnership with Marketing, drive and deliver a value story consistent with the client strategy. Present value of Optum Financial solutions to various levels within the client, including executives, decision makers and key influencers. This may include on-site or virtual meetings.
•    Influence external customers at the VP & C-Suite level as a trusted executive partner.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of sales experience in a highly complex, matrixed healthcare or fintech organization
  • 7+ years of experience working with stakeholder and business leaders to drive outcomes
  • 5+ years in a leadership role with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse sales team
  • Proven track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets and driving revenue growth
  • Experience in driving deep, productive relationships with external clients
  • Demonstrated success building and evolving relationships with internal C-suite and matrixed stakeholder teams
  • Strategic thinker with a customer-centric approach and the ability to adapt to a rapidly changing market
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Proven application of change management methodologies
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time based on business needs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business (MBA)
  • Experience working across UHG, Optum and/or UHC lines of businesses
  • Located in Eden Prairie, MN

The salary range for this role is $$180,000 to $$280,000 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
