This role sits with UnitedHealthcare’s Specialty Benefits Dental and Vision Medical Expense Accounting team, which is responsible for managing and overseeing annual claim feeds exceeding $5 billion from four adjudication platforms.
Primary responsibility of this position is to ensure accurate accounting and financial reporting for our intersegment business. This is internal business within UHG with a variety of funding arrangements and various GL strings. This role will work closely with the financial data management team and Intersegment Accounting Team to ensure proper GL tagging and address data discrepancies. Individual will need to analyze revenues, membership, and medical expense to ensure ledger alignment. Individual will be tasked with investigating discrepancies and communicating findings to Specialty Benefits leadership. This role will also support quarterly / monthly reporting for our Medicaid business within March Vision Care and Dental Medicaid carveout contracts.
This position is vital in ensuring consistency, accuracy and timeliness of the month-end close process. Individual will also collaborate with the Intersegment Governance Committee and FTS teams in onboarding new customers. The role requires a solid understanding of insurance accounting and regulatory aspects of the industry. The role will also be supporting audits, regulatory examinations and ad-hoc data calls from various regulatory agencies.
The role also includes the responsibility to compile, support preparation or review regulatory filings of UHC dental and/or Vision business.
Overall, this position requires a combination of accounting expertise, attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively with different teams to manage and report on a significant medical expense stream.
Preferred candidates will have an undergraduate degree in accounting, CPA and have 2+ years of experience.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Record journal entries and/or analyze automated claim data feeds from various sources, including commercial, private label, Medicaid and Medicare
- Support month-end close accounting by compiling medical expense estimates, tracking actuals, performing variance analysis to explain elements driving key variances to budgets, forecasts and historical trends
- Resolves quarterly MLR out of bound activity along with DLR discrepancies
- Analyze commercial, private label, Medicaid and Medicare claims to ensure activity correctly reflected in the general ledger
- Support Dental Loss Ratio reporting by compiling financials in state specified formats
- Prepare and present financial summary and related analytics of assigned legal entity to leadership/regulatory teams and manage ad-hoc reporting requests
- Prepare or approve assigned GL account reconciliations and support internal or external audits
- Work with other Accounting Teams, Account Managers, Underwriting and Legal to assess new contracts and implement accounting procedures based up customer needs and requirements
- Identify solutions to non-standard requests and problems
- Solve moderately complex problems and/or conduct moderately complex analyses

Required Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance or business-related field
- 2+ years of work experience in accounting, finance or reporting
- Open to learning SQL code and working with large amounts of data
- Intermediate level skills in Microsoft Excel
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA
- Experience with SQL or other data query tools
- Microsoft Office (Work, Powerpoint, Outlook, Teams)
- Proven problem-solving skills
- Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated technical aptitudes

The salary range for this role is $59,500 to $116,600 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
