Nursing Summer Internship Program
Join our full-time Nursing Summer Internship Program, running for 10 weeks starting June 3, 2025. This immersive experience requires a commitment of 40 hours per week and involves traveling to infusion sites and patients’ homes within a designated territory (up to 60 miles per day). We provide mileage reimbursement to support your travel needs.
This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and make a meaningful impact in patient care.
Our Nursing Summer Internship Program offers nursing students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience beyond traditional hospital bedside care. This program is designed to broaden your understanding of the nursing field and prepare you for a dynamic career in healthcare.
Throughout this experience, you will:
- Gain exposure to patient care needs across the healthcare continuum

- Engage in the «Day in the Life of a Home Infusion Nurse» series
- Learn through the Enterprise Foundations program
- Build connections through networking and student cohort interactions
Primary Responsibilities:
As a Nurse Intern, you will take on the role of a professional caregiver, responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. Under the guidance of our experienced RNs and providers, you will learn to:
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, analyzing clinical and lab data
- Develop, interpret, implement and document individual care plans
- Administer IV therapy medications, managing vascular access requiring advanced nursing competencies
- Monitor and evaluate patient progress, recognizing clinical and/or lab data to be reported to provider
- Learn to document appropriately in electronic medical record
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (clinical and nonclinical) to ensure optimal patient outcomes
- Provide patient education based on disease state, treatment, access, and adherence
- Travel with infusion staff to perform in-home infusion therapy (may vary by market)

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, with graduation anticipated within 12 months prior to the internship start date
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week during the duration of the summer internship program (from June 3 – August 8)
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization (F-1 students with practical training and candidates requiring H-1Bs, TNs, etc. will not be considered)
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
- Experience with infusion therapy
- Knowledge of clinical terminology
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
The hourly range for this role is $16.00 to $20.43 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
