As a member of Optum Health’s Midwest Region Care Delivery Team, the Director, Product Integration (Director) will own the tactical execution of product planning, build, testing and evaluation efforts and manages the launch of all new products. This leader will work collaboratively across a fast-paced organization and ensuring alignment with business objectives, market needs and client demands. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing complex, cross-functional initiatives, delivering results on time and within budget, and fostering collaboration across diverse team

Under the direction of the Vice President, Product Operations, the Director will work closely with Midwest Region’s Medical Directors, Clinical leaders and Operations leaders, as well as peers across Optum assets, to design and implement plans that support an aggressive growth and innovation agenda.  The role will interact and collaborate on important cross-business initiatives while executing the integration and launch of new products and growth strategies that impact Optum at the national level.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Own end-to-end product integration processes on behalf of the Region, including leading sessions to plan for the operationalization of products
  • Accountable for a clear and up-to-date Product Roadmap that guides all product development efforts and ensure it is well socialized across the Region 
  • Direct the end-to-end Product Lifecycle, with clear stage-gates for each phase of the development process  
  • Direct all aspects of the launch process, ensuring that all activities, milestones, and deliverables are executed efficiently
  • Translate highly complex concepts in way that can be understood by a variety of audiences and influence senior leadership to adopt new ideas and/or approaches
  • Establish a clear structure for integrating patient-facing products and services to align with enterprise practices to simplify, standardize and bring uniformity of experiences while delivering the highest quality outcome to stakeholders
  • Develop the Region’s Product Integration Toolkit, ensuring colleague and patient-centricity by incorporating Voice of the Customer and patient journey mapping into the product launch and post-launch phases
  • Establish all pre-launch, Go Live and post-launch performance expectations; iterate and improve processes based on results
  • Oversee roll out all approved recommendations, including new tools, processes, procedures, documentation, trackers, etc. to position products for success
  • Establish process to identify pre-launch, Go Live and post-launch root causes of issues impacting stakeholders and/or achievement of operational and financial performance goals and lead solution sessions to mitigate risk
  • Develop a process to monitor and report launch progress against timelines, budgets, and KPIs, providing updates to internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure alignment with the product vision and strategy throughout all phases of implementation and launch
  • Provide integration leadership directly with internal and external stakeholders, pre and during implementation to ensure all commitments are met
  • Create collaborative working relationships with colleagues across the Region and organization and lead cross-functional initiatives
  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities, including the ability to build and retain a high performing team, foster a culture of quality and engagement, and lead with enterprise values

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or healthcare related field
  • 8+years of experience leading product integrations and implementations for healthcare-based products and services with accountability for business results
  • 8+ years of experience developing and launching products with health plan and/or provider clients
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and inspiring a team of product managers.  Ability to equip them with frameworks, tools, and best practices needed to excel in their roles and drive consistent, high-quality outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to excel in multiple product environments, including technology builds, build vs. buy analysis, patient-facing product, internally facing product, and process development/optimization
  • Proven ability to prioritize competing demands while balancing long-term vision with short-term execution and reflecting this in a maintained and communicated product roadmap 
  • Proven solid data analysis and interpretation skills
  • Proven excellent written and verbal communication and presentation building/delivering skills, with the ability to agilely adapt to the respective audience (team member to senior leadership) – including simplifying and communicating technical ideas to business audiences
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in LEAN skills, Six Sigma, PMP and/or Agile
  • 8+ years of experience with senior/executive level communications, including clients
  • 8+ years of experience leading and managing teams
  • 5+ years of experience building processes for medium and large companies
  • Experience in Medicare Advantage, Medicaid and/or value-based care
  • Experience in Scrum and/or Agile environments, including sprint reporting in large organizations
  • Demonstrated experience in communicating with clients in meetings and written correspondence
  • Proven self-directed professional with solid experience to work and lead through ambiguity

The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
