Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as UHC E&I primary actuarial expert on Mental Health Parity, guiding policy decisions that impact product design and pricing strategies. Primary focus on Mental Health Parity regulation, testing, compliance, and process improvement.
- Assumes responsibility for Mental Health Parity Tools including exposure evaluations and remediations, data integrity reviews and investigations.
- Leads regulatory risk management efforts, proactively assesses compliance risks and implements solutions to mitigate potential legal and financial exposure.
- Leads risk assessments related to parity compliance, identifying key financial implications, makes strategic recommendations to mitigate potential liabilities. Establishes processes for audit readiness, ensures internal systems and reporting structures are optimized for state and federal reviews.
- Shapes and executes enterprise-wide regulatory responses to ensure UHC’s business practices comply with Mental Health Parity laws. Develops regulatory expertise to assess and guide stakeholders on risks.
- Provides guidance to leadership, ensuring parity compliance strategies are integrated into pricing, network design, and benefit structures.
- Partners with actuarial, underwriting, legal, compliance, and product teams to align parity compliance initiatives with broader business objectives.
- Shape, construct, and communicate high quality and effective solutions to business partners that meet external and internal customer expectations and regulatory obligations.
- Additional responsibilities will include support of National Tools and periodic national studies.
- Establish and apply knowledge of National Tools and best practices to facilitate product implementation and regulatory requirements.
- Provide expertise to support pricing and guidance to traditional or nontraditional product designs and/or pilot programs.
- Develop proficiencies with data systems, data processes, and data technology to support business needs.
- Solid ability in communicating complex concepts to non-actuarial audiences. Educate and instruct actuarial pricing and other business partners.
- Provides leadership support to direct reports; leader-serves to create an environment for team members to reach their best potential.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- ASA (Associate of the Society of Actuaries) or FSA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries) designation. (If ASA, seeking a career ASA or ASA expecting FSA in within a year.)
- 5+ years of commercial group or individual actuarial pricing experience
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel
- Intermediate level of proficiency with VBA and Structured Query Language (SQL)
- Intermediate level level of experience coding in as Python, R or SAS
Preferred Qualifications
- Mental health parity product experience
- Commercial group or individual health rate development and pricing experience.
- Experience discussing complex or actuarial concepts to non-actuarial audiences
- Experience working in finance or the health care industry
- Beginner experience level with advanced analytic techniques, consistent with SoA Exam structure on predictive analytics
- Beginner experience level with database structure as well as the acquisition and preparation of data for actuarial modeling
- Beginner understanding of health insurance pricing, from the fundamentals of health claims (i.e., frequency, severity) to benefit plan pricing (e.g., value of member cost sharing) to expenses and how it all fits to establish a premium

The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
