As an Accounting Manager within OptumHealth Regulatory Accounting and Reporting, you will be responsible for managing the preparation and review of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, changes in capital and surplus, statements of cash flow, and supplemental financial exhibits pursuant to Statutory Accounting Principles or Knox Keene, which are based on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). You will manage the quarterly and annual statutory filings, supplemental filings related to Health Care Reform, other state supplemental filings, and the annual audited financial statements for regulated entities. You will review and approve journal entries in accordance with Statutory Accounting Principles and Medical Loss Ratio (MLR) requirements. In this position, the work volume peaks in the first quarter, followed by a more predictable schedule thereafter.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the external and internal audits of the regulated entities, oversee Department of Insurance inquiries, and provide support during examinations. Audit coordinator responsibilities include approving audit documentation, issue resolution and time management
- Review and approve certain account reconciliations and prepared analytics
- Manage communications and board reports for regulated entity officers and directors
- Plan, coordinate and manage the work of others. Monitor compliance with key controls and standard accounting and reporting practices and procedures
- Liaison external audit inquiries between segments
- Lead ad-hoc projects and initiatives to develop and implement innovative approaches for continued improvement in efficiency and effectiveness
- Develop and engage personnel with direct and indirect reporting relationships through mentoring and coaching

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5+ years of accounting experience
- 1+ years Managerial/ supervisory experience
- Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Proven ability to communicate in an effective manner
- Demonstrate the ability to prioritize and organize workload to meet multiple hard deadlines
- Proven ability to anticipate customer needs and proactively develop solutions to meet them
Preferred Qualifications:
- Public accounting experience
- Financial Statement preparation and/or audit experience
- Experience with Hyperion SmartView and PeopleSoft Financials
- Accounting experience handling regulated entities
- Healthcare industry experience
The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
