Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create a comprehensive compliance strategy and support business leaders in implementing that strategy
  • Provide leadership, strategy development and implementation, and guidance to UHC Employee & Individual (E&I) executive leadership team on compliance and regulatory issues, including Ancillary & Individual, Individual Family Plan (IFP) and UHC Global
  • Oversee a team and work within a UHC Compliance Shared Services structure that works with the business to implement an effective compliance program that prevents compliance issues from occurring; monitors with the business to detect issues and corrects those issues when detected through monitoring or regulatory audits
  • Manage UHC Global compliance function, supported by non-integrated teams located in Chile and Colombia, to deliver an effective compliance program for non-U.S. regulated insurance and care delivery businesses
  • Develop and implement regulatory change management (RCM) strategies supporting E&I, C&S and select Enterprise functions, including public health emergencies
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to deliver an effective compliance program for the state and federal regulated products within the business segment, including fully insured, self-funded, individual and IFP (individual exchange) products. Collaborate with fellow line of business (Medicaid and Medicare) compliance officers to deliver a robust and agile compliance program across UHC
  • Influence, lead and collaborate within the highly matrixed Compliance team and with highly matrixed business partners across UHC, Optum and UHG
  • Drive and implement strategies and issue problem resolution across the E&I business, including the Ancillary and Individual division which includes IFP, vision, dental, transportation and commercial sales/ distribution. Collaborate with A&I division to support effective compliance programs for Medicaid private label and direct government dental and vision business
  • Establish and work with the accountable business owner to implement standard policies, procedures and align best practices across the company to promote compliance with applicable laws and contractual obligations
  • Collaborate with operations, clinical, pharmacy, network and other areas to review, analyze and develop/oversee initial implementation project plans and/or corrective action plans to ensure compliance with new or existing laws and state and federal regulations, including company, customer and accreditation requirements
  • Consult and coordinate with new business/sales/product development to determine all regulations pertaining to any products being offered in the marketplace
  • Lead business segment with strategic thinking, the ability to influence, solid communication skills (verbal/written) and the ability to translate and execute strategies
  • Provide strategic leadership on and partner with legal, regulatory affairs, and privacy partners through multiple layers of management and senior level professional staff

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience working in a legal, healthcare, managed care and/or health insurance environment in a regulatory, privacy or compliance role
  • 10+ years of leadership experience with 5+ years of experience directly leading a team
  • 5+ years of experience leading and implementing a comprehensive compliance program
  • Ability to navigate a complex matrixed environment and drive to resolution
  • Healthcare insurance compliance knowledge
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver strategic vision and drive to improved and sustainable outcomes
  • Experience working with and influencing senior executives
  • Ability to navigate a complex matrixed environment and impact processes and outcomes resulting in delivering a value proposition to business partners
  • Excellent relationship building skills with the ability to build relationships cross-functionally with key stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor or MA/MBA
  • Experience with commercial health insurance lines of business
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Collaborative, accountable and agile team leader

The salary range for this role is $250,000 to $350,000 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
