You’re empowered to do your best by supporting the Business Capabilities and Solution Delivery Team. The Senior Director, General Management provides leadership to and is accountable for the performance of directors, managers, and/or senior level professional staff in addition to influencing leaders at all levels through client-facing work. The Director of General Management will act as a strategic business leader supporting business leadership in developing leadership strategy, documenting priorities, and leading and facilitating onsite’ s and other executive level presentations. This individual may also be responsible for complex program management and/or portfolio management. Within our BCSD team, the candidate is sought out as expert, serves as a leader/mentor in program and portfolio management, strategy development, and executive-level partnership and communication.
Positions in this function include those responsible for management and administration of multiple functions, or management of general business operations. May manage the P&L of a business or part of a business unit. Manage daily operations of multiple levels of staff and multiple functions/departments across one or more business units. May include day to day site operations, management leadership internal and external to organization, accountable for financial and non-financial results (budgets and actuals). Project management and implementation, staff management.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Accountable for supporting a business portfolio of $600M+ in IOI and $71M+ in Capital and end-to-end oversight and delivery through business leader partnership translating strategic priorities into initiatives
- Owns and actively manages business portfolio resource allocation budget of approximately $2M+
- Performs Chief-of-Staff duties to support Home Delivery CEO and supports the development, delivery, and execution of Home Delivery strategy
- Driving $100M in gap management and cost takeouts for Pharmacy Care Services
- Has a solid financial acumen and owns end-to-end alignment of the portfolio to successfully deliver initiatives and capital investments to achieve strategic priorities
- Leads a team of 18 and ~30+ of indirect reports supporting Pharmacy Care Services portfolio
- Provides leadership to and is accountable for the performance and results through multiple layers of management and senior level professional staff
- Portfolio owner for several business portfolios driving enterprise connections across lines of business. Owns resourcing, staffing, and forecasting for the portfolios supported
- Provides directions to others to resolve highly complex or unusual business problems that affect major functions or disciplines
- Owns the management of talent and assists in building, maintaining, and strengthening teams to achieve high performance and succession planning activities
- Develops, translates, and executes the business strategies and tactical plans while collaborating with OptumRx, Optum Health and Optum Insights leadership to maximize the value of Optum’s variety of available solutions. Direct interactions and exposure to C suite executives to drive alignment and issue resolution
- Partner with Business Capabilities and Solution Delivery leadership as a key thought partner to develop strategy and vision for the team
- Responsible for driving results and acting as a liaison between business leadership, capabilities, and capital team to deliver end to end business results
- Lead growth and innovation of service offerings that lead to internal client satisfaction and assures high quality deliverables and achieves major business objectives
- Works with and direct others to identify and solve relevant business problems and opportunities by assigning appropriate resourcing and ensuring project delivery
- Drives programs that impact markets of consumers and customers
- Drives and oversees complex Project- and Program-level initiatives, with oversight of large cross-functional teams
- Accountable for leading the delivery of projects that includes cost analysis, performance optimization, quality measures, strategy, outcomes, and financial assessments
- Provide coaching and mentoring to less senior team members
- Provide thought leadership on healthcare topics and identify emerging market trends

Required Qualifications:
Successful candidates for this position will be highly motivated, self-starting, and willing to go the extra mile to ensure the success of the team.
- 10+ years of project delivery, consulting and/or similar executive management experience
- 8+ years delivering results of portfolio management, projects & programs in a highly matrixed environment
- 8+ years driving and delivering on long range plans/goals achieving successful business results
- 5+ years defining, developing, and executing against strategic priorities
- 5+ years managing people
- Experience in executive-level presentations and facilitation
- Experience in a cross-matrixed enterprise environment with cross-functional leadership
- Experience in financial acumen and capital planning
- Experience influencing and gaining alignment across varying points of view from SVP and C level executives
- Experience as a strategic thought partner with executive leadership supporting strategy development, documenting strategic priorities, and translating strategy into action
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in a consulting role
- Program or Portfolio Management experience
- PBM and/or pharmacy experience
- Healthcare experience
- Familiarity with Optum and our products & services

The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
