As a Senior Business Analyst within the Optum Advisory – Trend Analytics Consulting team, you will be at the forefront of healthcare analytics, helping to shape data strategies that improve lives. Collaborate with a diverse team of actuaries, data engineers, and consultants to drive innovation, solve complex problems, and deliver insights that matter.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with clients and stakeholders, delivering release notices, project updates, and timelines clearly and proactively
  • Extract, join, and analyze massive datasets from legacy systems using SQL, SAS, and modern tools like Azure, Snowflake, or Databricks
  • Conduct in-depth data profiling and statistical analysis to ensure accurate, reliable insights that support decision-making
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve logic errors, bugs, and process improvements independently – partnering with subject matter experts as needed
  • Collaborate with data engineers to design and optimize ETL processes for scalability and efficiency
  • Perform rigorous testing (regression, UAT), create detailed documentation, and implement quality control measures to ensure integrity of savings calculations and business logic
  • Develop comprehensive technical and business documentation to facilitate ongoing enhancements
  • Manage workload prioritization to meet deadlines, while continuously refining processes for maximum efficiency

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience translating business needs into detailed technical requirements
  • 5+ years working with relational databases and complex data structures
  • 5+ years coding in SQL across platforms (SAS, MS SQL Server, Oracle, Teradata, Azure, Snowflake, or Databricks)
  • 5+ years analyzing large, complex datasets and performing statistical analysis to derive actionable insights
  • 3+ years with SAS programming or SAS Enterprise Guide
  • 3+ years establishing database connections using tools like Toad, Dbeaver, or DBVisualizer
  • Solid expertise with 5+ years of experience working in Excel (pivot tables, functions, formulas) for quick data manipulation and reporting
  • Proven excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and collaboratively with data engineers, actuarial staff, project leads and manager
  • Proven ability to communicate complex findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting data production cycles and automated refresh processes
  • Claim processing knowledge across diverse platforms

The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
