This Associate Director, Compliance, will assist the UnitedHealthOne (UHOne) team in all business areas including HealthMarkets, Golden Outlook, First Family Insurance and USHEALTH.   In addition, this role will include providing compliance support for Individual and Family Plans (IFP).  This individual will engage directly with UHOne and Sales Agency and Carrier leaders, lead the UHOne Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC), assist with internal monitoring, market conduct exam support, vendor oversight, and data governance controls.

 

This individual will monitor changes to laws and regulations in spaces of accountability to ensure compliance with Federal laws, regulations, and mandates. They will be responsible for assisting in establishing and implementing standard policies, procedures, processes, and best practices to promote compliance with applicable laws and contractual obligations across UHOne and in coordination with Optum for delegated functions as appropriate. The individual may conduct regulatory and statutory research, in coordination with multiple partners to mitigate risk and achieve compliance. This individual will also support the collection of data for regulatory and internal reporting to support compliance efforts and may develop compliance communications and assist in complex problem resolution for UHOne business.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of compliance professionals responsible for supporting agency and carrier compliance
  • In areas of responsibility and across UHC as appropriate, collaborate with business, functional, legal, regulatory affairs, and compliance team leaders to ensure accountability, and assess and manage risks with regulators
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategies to address state and federal regulatory audits and investigations, including audit readiness and monitoring, in partnership with compliance shared services teams and other segment compliance officers
  • Anticipate regulatory and enforcement trends and assist in developing strategies to mitigate potential risk and/or manage potential investigative/exam activities
  • Monitor trends in the healthcare industry and identify their implications on regulatory matters (e.g., industry changes and consolidation)
  • Assist compliance teams in analyzing and responding to state departments of insurance, CMS, OIG, and other regulatory issues and support problem resolution
  • Serve as compliance support for UHOne matters across the enterprise, in coordination with business compliance teams, to assist segment-wide risk issues management and mitigation
  • Collaborate effectively across the business in a matrixed environment, identifying and coordinating with key contacts
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of industry-leading practices and trends

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in a regulatory/compliance role
  • 2+ years of experience managing teams
  • Proven intermediate level of knowledge of regulatory environments, health care operations, and compliance challenges in the health care/managed care industry
  • Proven effective relationship-building skills, working with various levels of internal and external leaders including regulators

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC)
  • Managed care and/or compliance expertise, particularly experience with commercial insurance and/or individual exchanges

 

Skills:

  • Work independently and effectively manage a large workload
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills to identify compliance risks and develop effective solutions
  • Detail-oriented
  • Solid organizational skills
  • Solid project management experience, including simultaneously managing several large and detailed projects, or short timelines, and involving multiple contributors
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely, conveying complex or technical information in a manner that others can understand, as well as the ability to understand and interpret complex information from others
  • Solid interpersonal skills, establishing rapport and working well with others

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $110,200 to $188,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
