The EHR Technical Capability Manager is a leader assigned to a specific service area for EHR, reporting directly to the Capability Sub-Domain Leader. In this role you will be responsible for the dedicated EHR service delivery and management for your service area and will serve as the liaison between the capability service area and the operational leaders of each service area, leaders of the Optum EHR Clinical Applications Capability Team, the client representative from the in-scope vendor partners, and the other pillars that require support. Below is a list of primary and secondary activities the EHR Capability Manager will be responsible for in this role.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of ECSA, ODBA, and web server admins that provide support and maintenance to our client health systems including but not limited to Epic solutions and infrastructure
  • Partner with and align to the overall IT Delivery leadership for the client to provide service delivery in your area of assignment
  • Serve as point of escalation for issues identified and drive toward issue resolution
  • Support, develop and coach direct reports
  • Ensures that capability services staff work, including incidents, service requests, maintenance, enhancements, and project work are managed appropriately and delivered within specified timeframes adhere to client’s SLAs
  • Drive collaboration, communication, and end user satisfaction for EHR applications
  • Manage and develop solid relationships with end user communities, client stakeholders, and business partners, including pillar leadership
  • Perform analyst task duties as necessary and determined appropriate with leadership
  • Collaborate with project resources and review and implement best practices
  • Collaborate with clients on service demand and application roadmap
  • Liaison and provide relevant operational information to Optum EHR capability team
  • Work with Optum EHR capability team on coordination, prioritization, and management of EHR work – accountable for deliverables
  • Scoping and initial sizing of projects – advise and consult with Optum capability team to include support managers, leads and analysts for any technical planning necessary in scoping
  • Review, analyze and evaluate staffing needs, and work with Optum EHR capability leaders on client resource needs to meet contractual deliverables and SLAs
  • Address resource issues and work performance with Optum EHR capability leaders
  • Escalate and communicate issues/concerns to IT leadership, client leadership, and capability team leadership as appropriate
  • Perform direct report resource common reviews
  • Look for career growth opportunities for self and team members within Optum and EHR Services

Secondary Activities:

  • Support of internal activities as required, including by not limited to
    • Interviewing potential new candidates for EHR capability team 
    • Supporting EHR cohorts (bringing best practices to other partner sites by presenting topics at regularly cadenced meetings)
    • Support business development activities including solution design, development, and engagement
  • Identify efficiencies and optimization to support current and future client success
  • Identify areas for application rationalization for the client and in conjunction with the EHR capability team leaders
  • Provide status reports as required

Required Qualifications:

  • Epic ECSA certification
  • 5+ years of experience leading and executing on complex IT managed services delivery
  • 2+ years of technology leadership experience
  • 2+ years of direct leadership of team(s)
  • Experience working in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Experience supporting healthcare providers and/or organizations
  • Proven solid written and verbal communication skills, with customer service focus
  • Proven ability to collaborate with internal (IT) and external (operational) cross functional groups
  • Proven end-to-end experience delivering both software applications and technology platforms
  • Proven track record of success implementing and supporting highly scalable technology solutions for clients
  • Demonstrated success building relationships and accomplishing common goals for clients

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in computer science, information assurance, MIS or related field or equivalent experience in healthcare IT
  • Experience with application delivery of EHR and integration with downstream systems
  • Experience influencing, problem solving and negotiation skills

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $89,900 to $160,600 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
