The Sr Director of Product for Optum Insight’s Network Data Solutions will lead our enterprise-wide data strategy and execution. The Sr. Director will be responsible for driving innovation and operational excellence across data governance, product development, analytics, AI/ML capabilities, stewardship, and technology platforms. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a solid bias for action and a passion for unlocking the full value of data as a strategic asset. This role is responsible for delivering/supporting over $600M in annual revenue. Attainment of these business objectives will be achieved through leadership competencies and practices including operational excellence, being the voice of the market, the ability to scale the business, lead in a matrix environment, and drive growth by collaborating across other divisions. The Sr Director of Product serves as a member of the Network and Data Product business leadership team and contributes to the overall success of the business to drive the business unit.
The Sr Director of Product position requires an individual who understands how to get things done at Optum through influence, by leveraging your extensive interpersonal and collaboration skills. In addition, you must have experience in strategic planning, execution, building relationships, and working with executives at all levels. The Sr Director of Product will have solid critical thinking skills, demonstrated success in driving complex strategies, outstanding cross-group organizational skills and agility, and effective communication skills (verbal and written). Additionally, the Sr Director of Product will have a proven track record of running a P&L, operations, product innovation, and revenue & profitability growth. You should also enjoy setting stretch MBOs (management by objective) and able to manage ambiguity and uncertainty.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Define and execute a comprehensive data product strategy aligned with business objectives
- Champion a «data as a product» mindset across the organization
- Establish and scale enterprise data governance frameworks, policies, and standards
- Lead data stewardship programs to ensure data quality, lineage, and compliance
- Champion the strategic vision for AI adoption by aligning initiatives with organizational goals to unlock value, drive competitive advantage, and ensure responsible, transparent, and impactful outcomes. Lead the ethical transformation of business processes and culture through AI integration that enhances efficiency, innovation, and decision-making
- Identify and remove organizational and operational barriers to accelerate AI implementation. Effectively allocate and manage resources – including funding, talent, and technology – to support scalable and sustainable AI innovation
- Build and manage a portfolio of internal and external data products and platforms
- Drive the full product lifecycle from ideation to delivery, ensuring measurable business impact
- Oversee the development of advanced analytics and AI/ML capabilities
- Partner with data science and engineering teams to deliver scalable, ethical AI solutions
- Collaborate with the CTO and Engineering to define the data architecture and infrastructure roadmap
- Ensure robust, secure, and scalable data platforms and pipelines
- Build and lead a high-performance team of data product managers, analysts, and stewards
- Foster a data-driven culture across the organization

Required Qualifications:
- 12+ years of combined experience and a proven record of driving major transformational change and delivering measurable results and developing and leading growth programs or initiatives
- 5+ years in a senior leadership role managing cross-functional data teams across multiple geographies
- Experience with modern data stacks (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, Airflow, Kafka)
- Experience managing budgets that include sales/bookings targets, revenue targets, client satisfaction targets, and expense targets
- Experience in forecasting. Demonstrated experience in financial planning and analysis with previous experience partnering with human resources, information technology, and legal
- Experience assimilating and analyzing information pertaining to the customer experience
- Experience motivating, developing, coaching, and guiding people in a matrixed organization
- Deep understanding of data governance, data quality, metadata management, and regulatory compliance
- Solid familiarity with AI/ML platforms and analytics tools
- Proven success in building and scaling data platforms and products in complex enterprise environments
- Proven personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to Optum’s Vision and Values
- Willing to travel 10-15%
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10+ years of combined experience in product management, delivering new product delivery and leading strategic go-to-market initiatives of diverse scope in a large matrixed software company
- Background in computer science, data science, or engineering
- Experience supporting Optum Markets (Payers, Employers, Providers, Federal/State government, Emerging Markets)
- Experience working across UHG, Optum, and UHC lines of business
- Proficient skills and knowledge of servant leadership, resilience, resourcefulness, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency
- Located in/near Minneapolis or Washington DC

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $156,400 to $268,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
