As a Senior AI/ML Engineer, you will harness cutting-edge AI and machine learning technologies to enhance and transform current operations at Optum. This role is crucial for driving initiatives such as real-time settlement, medical chart processing, autonomous medical code generation, and medical image processing. You will collaborate closely with business and operations teams to understand their requirements and translate abstract concepts into practical AI solutions. Your contributions will play a vital role in significant AI initiatives that will positively impact healthcare systems. Schedule: Full-time position with standard working hours of Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Leverage AI/ML technologies to transform and improve current Optum operations. This includes, but is not limited to, projects such as smart revenue management, intelligent payment platforms, medical chart processing, automated medical code generation, and medical image processing
- Collaborate closely with business and operations teams to grasp the requirements and translate vague concepts into tangible AI solutions. Possess solid implementation skills to bring these solutions to life and work with engineering teams to build scalable, flexible product pipelines
- Adapt to an agile, fast-paced environment, and maintain a passion for exploring and integrating cutting-edge AI technologies to support future projects

Required Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Math/Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Bioinformatics, or another technical field that provides mathematical training
- 2+ years in Data Science or AI/ML Engineering
- 2+ years of advanced level proficiency in at least one scripting language, such as Java, Python, SQL, PySpark, or C++
- 2+ years of advanced level proficiency with AI/ML technologies
- 2+ years of advanced level proficiency working with predictive analytics, NLP, image processing, Generative AI, or related technologies
- 1+ years of advanced level proficiency in analyzing business challenges and designing AI-driven solutions
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in Computer Science, Math/Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Bioinformatics, or another technical field that provides solid mathematical training
- Hands-on experience with GenAI tools, LLMs (GPT, LLaMA, Gemini) and RAG pipelines
- Ability to find AI solutions for undefined problems
Soft Skills:
- Ability to be a fast learner and self-driven
- Ability to work independently on complex AI projects

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $89,900 to $160,600 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
