The Cardiology Lab Exercise Physiologist acts as the administrative and technical support for all procedures provided by the cardiology lab. These procedures include EKGs, holter monitoring, event monitoring, stress treadmill testing, nuclear stress testing, transtelephonic pacemaker checks, tilt table testing, stress echocardiograms, contrast echocardiograms, transthorasic echocardiograms, satellite test transmissions and result coordination.
The Exercise Physiologist is expected to perform the majority of tasks within the Cardiology Laboratory.
Primary Responsibilities:
- 30% Conducts the medical history interview with patients and completes stress test worksheets. Instructs patients about the stress testing procedures, ensures patients has signed the appropriate forms, answers patient questions, marks the appropriate billing codes for the patient. Confirms proper diagnosis codes and effectively screens the patient for contraindications to stress testing. Performs patient electrode placement prior to procedure, removes electrodes when monitoring is complete, and assists the patient as necessary. Monitors ECG and vital signs throughout exercise testing for ECG changes, cardiac arrhythmias, blood pressure, and symptoms before, during, and after testing. Ensures proper termination of the stress test. Maintains accurate and complete documentation daily, adheres to all cardiology lab testing policies and procedures, report logging, and documentation. Communicates professionally and effectively with the KSC Cardiologists, referring physician, and Cardiology lab staff. Provides the same support as necessary for nuclear medical stress testing. Provides excellent customer service
- 10% Performs resting EKGs. Either in the lab or patient room, enters accurate patient information, diagnosis code, physician information, and location. Performs patient electrode placement prior to procedure, removes electrodes when monitoring is complete, and assists the patient when necessary. Recognizes lethal arrhythmias, immediately requests physician assistance, and follows KSC policy and procedure. Provides excellent customer service
- 10% Fits and removes Holter monitors. Scans Holter monitor reports and prepares a report for physician review. Performs in-house and trans-telephonic pacemaker checks. Enrolls patients in the Pacemaker Clinic and instructs patients on the use of pacemaker transmitters. Maintains accurate and complete documentation for procedures and in pacemaker charts. Schedules pacemaker interrogations. Provides excellent customer service
- 10% Answers the Cardiology Lab phone as needed and consistently communicates in a professional and courteous manner. Directly addresses and seeks to rectify patient and coworker needs. Immediately notifies the supervisor of complaints or concerns from patients and coworkers alike. Provides excellent customer service in all communications
- 10% Demonstrates ability to work with minimal supervision, being self-directed in daily tasks. Maintains a sense of pride and responsibility in all Cardiology Laboratory and related duties through example, professional attitude, professional appearance and excellent communication skills to coworkers and patients alike. Is able to prioritize, organize, and remain calm in pressure situations
- 10% Receives, processes, and edits EKGs, treadmill tests, Holter reports, and other paperwork from satellite and contract clinic locations. Maintains equipment and trouble shoots as necessary. Maintains accurate and complete documentation, adheres to lab testing policies and procedures. Immediately notifies supervisor of a problematic situation
- 5% Demonstrates use of cardiac event recorders. Enrolls patients with event recorder agency. Maintains accurate documentation and marks proper billing code for procedure. Provides excellent customer service
- 5% Prepares exercise prescriptions, provides body composition analysis, and delivers consultation to patients regarding exercise principles. Provides excellent customer service. Conducts the medical history interview with patients and completes tilt table test worksheets. Instructs patients about the tilt table testing procedures, ensures patients has signed the appropriate forms, answers patient questions, marks the appropriate billing codes for the patient. Confirms proper diagnosis codes and effectively screens the patient for contraindications to testing. Performs patient electrode placement prior to procedure, removes electrodes when monitoring is complete, and assists the patient as necessary. - 5% Participates in departmental meetings and demonstrates involvement in process improvement. Participates in special projects deemed necessary by the Cardiology Lab Supervisor or Coordinator. Provides support for contrast echocardiograms and stress echocardiograms to include stress monitoring as necessary, patient iv placement and removal, and contrast injection
- 5% Assists with Code Blue procedures as needed. Responds to codes, brings crash cart with defibrillator, and any other necessary equipment. When appropriate provides CPR and/or places patients on monitor, runs 12 lead EKG during Code Blue, provides any other assistance as needed within training limitations. Remains current with job-related knowledge and credentialing such as current trends in exercise testing and prescription, BLS, ACLS, etc.

Required Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree; preferably in nursing, health education, nutrition, exercise physiology or a closely related field
- Certification in a nationally recognized coaching program or the ability to complete certification by the end of the first year of employment
- 2+ years of experience in direct education and/or coaching individuals for disease prevention, health promotion and behavior change
- Basic knowledge of disease prevention (cardiovascular and diabetes) and basic understanding of exercise principles, nutrition and weight management
- Intermediate level of proficiency in PC-based word processing and database documentation (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, Outlook)
Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $23.41 to $41.83 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
