Enterprise Technology Infrastructure, Platforms & Services (ETIPS) delivers services and operational support to meet business integration objectives. Architecture leadership to provide scalable, secure, and highly available infrastructure solutions to meet care delivery business needs and enable future business growth.

 

As a Senior Linux Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a critical role in managing and optimizing our High Performance Compute infrastructure environment. You will work with Linux, Kubernetes, and OpenStack environments to ensure the reliability, security, and efficiency of our systems. Your expertise in advanced Linux administration, networking, and automation will be essential in driving our projects forward.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deploy and maintain Linux environments on High Performance Compute architecture using KVM hypervisor, Virtual Machines, and Kubernetes
  • Automate infrastructure management and deployments using Ansible over hundreds of KVM hosts and thousands of VMs and K8s clusters
  • Deploy and maintain Kubernetes clusters (OpenShift)
  • Deploy and maintain OpenStack for on-prem VMs
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure high availability and reliability
  • Collaborate with development and application teams
  • Ensure security best practices are followed and compliance requirements are met
  • Document processes, configurations, and procedures
  • Support evolution and enhancement of the overall architecture through future architecture design changes and new platform lifecycle management initiatives
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills including recovery of Linux systems and working with RedHat support, e.g. Single User Boot for emergency recovery
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to participate in on-call rotation

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in Linux administration / engineering including experience:
    • RedHat Linux administration and the KVM hypervisor including building KVM hypervisors and Linux VMs 
    • RedHat Openshift Kubernetes administration
    • Linux networking concepts such as macvtap and bonding in Linux.
    • Advanced Linux storage and file system concepts like LVM, dmcrypt, LUKS2, and IBM GPFS clustered file systems
  • 5+ years of experience with Ansible for automation and configuration management
  • 5+ years of experience creating automation scripts 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • RedHat Certified Engineer or similar certifications
  • Experience with:
    • LinuxONE hardware platform and other High Performance Compute architectures
    • libvirt, qemu, virsh, domain XML for managing VMs on a KVM Linux host
    • OpenStack on-prem cloud for managing Virtual Machines.
    • Linux multipathd and general FCP/SAN zoning concepts 
    • Setting up rpm repos for yum updates/patching
    • centralized log aggregation, rsyslog, fluentd, splunk
    • Prometheus, AlertManager, Node Exporter FreeIPA (RedHat Identity Manager for Linux Single Sign On LDAPS and BIND DNS)
    • Grafana, Loki, HAProxy, and nginx
    • Firewalld, SELinux, fail2ban, LinuxAudit and other Linux security hardening techniques
    • Golang programming
  • Understanding of certificates using Venafi, TLS, symmetric, and asymmetric cryptography concepts
  • Familiarity with Linux environments in support of AI workloads such as GPU clusters for model fine tuning or model inference hosting of ML/DL models

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
