Reporting to the Senior Associate General Counsel/Intellectual Property, this position is responsible for assisting the IP Legal team with all transactional matters related to intellectual property (IP). This individual must provide high quality service to internal clients across the enterprise and provide support to internal/external counsel. This position will be heavy on technology transactions, clean room software development, employee intellectual property issues, mergers & acquisition support, and other cross-functional corporate matters that relate to IP. As such, this individual must have a solid foundation and understanding of the various forms of IP. This position will provide IP support for, and interface with, business and legal department leaders with varying needs and requirements; accordingly, the individual must be approachable, easy to work with, conduct him or herself with confidence, act as an expert in their field, and be skilled at drafting and providing clear and well-reasoned business advice to complex legal problems. This individual must be a self-starter, have excellent organizational skills, efficiently manage their time, and work proactively to meet the demands of the businesses. This individual may also be asked to assist the IP Legal Team with management of the company’s other IP including trade secrets, copyrights, patents, trademarks and other intellectual property matters.
This position is listed as a telecommuter but applicant may choose to work from a company office if located nearby.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide IP legal support for transactional matters, such as joint collaboration and development agreements, research agreements, government contracts, customer contracts, software and/or service procurements, software licenses, employee agreements, and acquisitions of IP
- Create and maintain internal contracting processes, procedures, and tools, such as playbooks and checklists
- Work with a wide range of internal clients and internal attorneys to provide legal contracting support and provide counsel on intellectual property risks
- Assist in the development of internal procedures
- Develop and maintain IP Legal educational content and provide employee training
- Identify and assess areas of legal risk and escalate appropriately

Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate degree
- Admission in the state bar where the individual resides
- 3+ years of transactional law firm or in-house experience, particularly the negotiation and drafting of technology contracts
- Coursework or practical legal experience in all forms of intellectual property and the ability to identify intellectual property issues
- Proven excellent presentation skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Proven to be proactive and independent self-starter with the ability to manage, handle and prioritize multiple projects with a sense of urgency/energy and an emphasis on quality
- Proven excellent organizational skills and a detail-oriented and deadline-focused personality
- Proven well-developed written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to provide proactive, timely advice and follow through to resolution
- Proven ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally in a matrixed environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated understanding of business problems related to assigned legal projects
- Proven ability to evaluate and determine appropriate legal course of action to meet business needs
- Proven ability to build and maintain solid working relationships with superiors, peers, subordinates, clients and outside counsel
- Proven ability to work within a small team – sharing work and assignments as needed to ensure priority projects are handled within the appropriate timeframe

The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
