Enterprise Risk Financing & Insurance is responsible for collaborating with internal operations and external vendors to minimize UnitedHealth Group’s risk through strategic risk financing and insurance programs. This position’s responsibilities will include managing various aspects of coverage insured through the company’s single-parent captive insurance company and commercially, acquisition due diligence, claims management activities, general risk management consultation, contract review and guidance, and other general risk management activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage elements of various insurance programs, which may include medical malpractice liability, professional liability, managed care errors & omissions liability, first and third-party privacy and network security/cyber, technology errors and omissions, property insurance, automobile liability, and general liability
  • Provide risk management consultation and guidance to businesses and program insureds, including feedback on various business contractual arrangements and operations
  • Maintain and support data analytics documentation
  • Gather, organize, validate, summarize, and distribute loss and other insurance-related data associated with insurance programs, typically in MS Excel format
  • Organize, schedule, and facilitate creation of presentations for various quarterly and ad hoc meetings
  • Manage property and cyber insurance claims, including coverage analysis and determination, where applicable, insurer reporting, and managing communications amongst insurers, third-party administrators, internal partners, and coverage counsel
  • Conduct and/or support risk management due diligence analysis for potential acquisitions and divestitures – review exposures, loss experience, insurance program structure, as well as other material information, and report upon findings.  Support acquisition integration activities
  • Manage and support various risk management and captive special projects
  • Support and back-up for actuarial analysis projects associated with the captive insurance programs: gather and assimilate actuarial data, verify data accuracy and actuaries’ work product, ensure data integrity

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in commercial insurance or corporate insurance risk management in complex commercial and/or captive/risk retention group insurance programs
  • Broad knowledge of corporate insurance coverages and policy forms, including contract and insurance policy language negotiation
  • Solid MS Office skills, specifically Excel skills at the advanced or intermediate level, as well as Word and Power Point
  • Proven ability to lead multiple projects, coordinate competing priorities with multiple internal and external stakeholders, and use consulting, negotiation, and risk management skills to do so
  • Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to work in a telecommuting position

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Industry designation such as Associate in Risk Management or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter
  • Experience with risk management information systems (RMIS), including Origami
  • Familiarity with standard accounting practices
  • Proven ability to generate, pursue and operationalize ideas and processes

The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
