The CareCoach Connect Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) performs a variety of healthcare activities in coordination with Physicians or Advanced Practice Clinician in support of patient care. These may include but are not limited to taking vitals, administering injections, diagnostic testing, phlebotomy, quality surveys, various other procedures, and to assist in documentation where appropriate. The CMA will deliver exceptional customer service and maintain established quality control standards.
This position will require the CMA to be field based and see patients in the patient’s home, virtual settings, and other field based areas.
The Certified Medical Assistant is required to perform all duties of a Medical Assistant within their scope of practice delegated by, and under the supervision of, a provider (TX) or physician (FL).
Organize the clinical environment (including patient home) and provide support in patient care situations. Support includes, but is not limited to, assisting physicians and nursing personnel, including those skills listed under Job Functions below along with various other procedures under the direct supervision and responsibility of a medical provider. The CMA assists in identifying patient needs or problems and communicating data to the provider or other members of the clinical team. The CMA delivers quality customer service. Ensures policy and procedures are followed including infection control, privacy and confidentiality.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform all duties within the scope of a Certified Medical Assistant (Items include but are not limited to provider supervised procedures, injections, diagnostic testing, phlebotomy)
- Coordinate healthcare screening results as directed by providers, company standards, and policies
- Travel with provider to patient homes, mobile units, and other locations to support the delivery of services in the community setting
- Perform and complete all quality program health screenings per required metrics
- Process appropriate documents in an organized and accurate manner and copies all physicians on patient results and quality forms submitted
- Record patient care documentation in the medical records accurately and in a timely matter according to company policy
- Review all medical information, test results and suvey questions prior to completion of the patient visit to ensure all information is captured
- Ensure that supplies are available, stock is inventoried, log data is accurate and supplies are rotated. Follows up with discrepancies
- Present abnormal results to the provider promptly to ensure there is not an emergent condition that needs immediate attention
- Post visit preparation of charts for faxing, filing and forwarding to the PCP offices
- Pre visit chart preparation and documentation where appropriate
- Assist with consent forms, ensuring signatures obtained and forms scanned into the EMR
- Ensure that follow up appointment dispositions are documented
- Review and ensure that post visit recommendations from provider are completed such as prescriptions and referrals
- Maintain patient confidentiality of all materials handled within the department as well as proper release of patient information at all times
- Maintain certifications (MA,CHW, and CPR) and quality control standards
- Promote positive work environment
- Assist other members of their team with coordination of work
- Perform all other related duties as assigned
- Operate diagnostic equipment (cannot interpret tests), assist in removal of staples from superficial wounds, change wound dressing and obtain cultures, administer non intravenous medication, perform simple specimen collection via noninvasive techniques, collect blood specimens via venipuncture or via capillary, and perform EKGs under direct provider supervision. Perform quality control checks on equipment. Prepare and sterilize medical equipment using the autoclave
- Ensure Specialist/Home Health/DME/Hospice referrals are entered and followed up in a timely matter
- Assist in development of Plan of Care paperwork for the assigned Advanced Practice Clinician to review

Required Qualifications:
- High school graduate or GED equivalent
- Current, nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification or registration or must obtain the designation within 90 days of employment hire date
- Current CPR certification or must obtain certification within 30 days of employment hire date
- Basic computer literacy
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- ICD-10 and CPT coding
- Valid drivers license within the state of work
- Proven good communication and customer service skills
- Proven to be flexible and adaptable to change
- Proven ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations and assume a leadership role until higher level clinician can arrive on the scene
- Proven ability to travel frequently within assigned market
- This position requires Tuberculosis screening as well as proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity, documented evidence of vaccination, or a doctor’s diagnosis of disease
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program
- 3+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant or a combination of 5+ years of non-certified medical assistant experience and certified medical assistant experience
- 1+ years of related experience in a medical setting
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Physical & Mental Requirements:
- 1 Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- 1 Ability to push or pull heavy objects using up to 100 pounds of force
- 1 Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- 1 Ability to use fine motor skills to operate equipment and/or machinery
- 1 Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing
- 1 Ability to use logical reasoning for simple and complex problem solving
- 1 Occasionally requires exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids
- 1 Must have a valid drivers license within the state of work
The hourly range for this role is $16.00 to $28.85 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
