Legal Services Consultant, Complex Litigation – US Remote

This position supports the UHG Complex Litigation team, handling select cases from both UHC and Optum. The role involves substantial data work, researching claim related issues, coordination with internal and external contacts, assisting with trial arrangements, and internal reporting. The ideal candidate will have outstanding organizational skills, acute attention to detail, be resourceful, and have the ability to work well with senior leaders in a complex, matrixed environment.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Information Gathering/Discovery Support: Collect and organize claim documents, contracts, and other relevant information to support litigation
- Data Management: Obtain necessary data from various platforms to produce in cases. Identify any gaps in data, assist in working with data subject matter experts to resolve questions, maintaining a thorough understanding of different enterprise data capabilities and reasources
- Internal Contacts Identification: Identify key internal contacts, including key witnesses, client contacts and former employees
- Witness Coordination: Coordinate witness fact development and preparation
- Trial Arrangements: Assist with trial arrangements, including logistics and coordination with outside counsel
- Management of Claim Related Issues: Develop a solid understanding of enterprise documents, including claim documents and policies and procedures. Aid attorneys and outside counsel in collection and understanding claim specific issues
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with in-house attorneys and outside counsel to support case management
- Internal Reporting: Perform substantial work on internal reporting, including board reporting. Ensure accuracy and clarity in all reports and presentations. Prepare slide decks/presentations on key issues
- Process Improvement: Assist in developing processes for team and best practices
- Enterprise Knowledge: Develop a deep understanding of the business, which is a complex, matrixed environment

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or high school diploma/GED with 4+ years relevant experience (litigation)
- 4+ years working in legal or regulatory environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications:
- Paralegal Degree or Certificate
- In house paralegal/litigation experience
- Experience working with senior leadership
- Experience working in a complex matrixed environment
- Experience with serving external and internal clients/customers, with a positive customer service attitude
- Experience in the healthcare industry, managed care industry or a federal or state government health care program
- Project management experience
- Proven detail oriented, including ability to review presentations, letters, contracts, training materials, etc., spotting legal issues, ensuring clarity/accuracy of description
- Proven ability to work within a team, sharing work and assignments as needed to ensure priority projects are handled within the appropriate timeframe
- Demonstrated research skills with a variety of vehicles – intranet, internet, Lexis Nexis, networking, etc.
- Proven independent thinker who knows when to seek guidance
- Proven solid analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
- Proven excellent communication skills – written and verbal

The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
