The Clinical Pharmacist is responsible for overall drug information research, evaluation and reviews related to the drug discount contracting team and the wider OptumRx Ireland Team. This position is part of a cross-functional division (e.g., Finance Accounting, Clinical, Legal, Contract Specialist, and Client Management) managing formulary placement strategies for over 60 therapeutic classes to the lowest net cost for OptumRx clients.

Schedule: Full-time position Monday – Friday with standard working hours

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Research upcoming drug releases and treatment guidelines, develop and maintain pharmacy programs, such as formulary lists, drug utilization review, prior authorization, health outcomes, disease state management, care management, and other specialty programs. May also include presenting at Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee
  • Interpret pharmacy programs to write clinical guidelines, job aides, and decision trees. Write and collaborate on member/provider collateral materials for pharmacy programs
  • Work on program implementation teams and contribute to business process design and systems set up, trouble shooting and updates
  • Review programs for compliance to state, federal and CMS regulations and recommend remediation. Monitor impending legislation for potential impact to current and future programs
  • Analyze data and prepare management summaries related to work stream results, performance mgmt. results, audit results, CMS reporting, and client reporting
  • Perform quality audits, determine performance gaps and root causes, prepares reports and collaborates on remediation

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Pharmacy
  • Registered with the Pharmacy Society of Ireland
  • Experience as a pharmacist in retail pharmacy, a hospital, or industry setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in US healthcare system and the role of pharmacy benefit management
  • Familiar with drug coverage programs, prior authorization process, and drug utilization management strategies
  • Advanced clinical training or experience

Soft Skills:

  • Strong written & verbal communication skills, must be able to able to effectively interpret, evaluate and summarize key information at various levels
  • Experience in maintaining professional relationships with internal stakeholders, constituents, or external vendors
  • Strategic thinker and/or project management skills
