This leadership position is responsible for a team of Subrogation Negotiators. Responsibilities include, leading a team of 15-20 employees, inventory management, forecasting & staff planning, meeting financial recovery targets ($30MM-$100MM in annual recoveries), meeting quality targets, project management to execute on operational blue chips and achieving employee engagement targets.
Primary Responsibilities:
Staffing: 33%
- Handle escalations from members, attorney’s, clients, etc.
- Ensure inbound & outbound call activities are handled timely and appropriately
- Sets team direction, resolves problems and provides guidance to members of own team
- May oversee work activities of other leaders and/or front line staff
- Manages interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training and evaluations of staff
- Ensure team is appropriately staffed and ramped to meet TAT
- Recognize high performance and reward accomplishments through Bravos
- Ensure supervisors and staff are held accountable to quality and production metrics
- Ensure staff is achieving goals and metrics as assigned
- Provide team direction and ensure workloads are being managed effectively
- Act as a resource to the staff regarding questions or issues as they arise
- Participate in ongoing training and development in order to provide direction and support to the team
- Provide ongoing feedback to individuals and team
- Review and respond to staff ideas for process improvements and technology enhancements
- Conduct scheduled 1:1 meetings at least once a month with direct reports
- Ensure team conducts weekly team huddles
- Ensure bi-monthly Skip Level meetings are scheduled

- Meet team financial targets
- Ensure functional tasks are accurately tracked and processed in accordance with SLA
- Ensure Quality and Performance scorecards are maintained an monitored
- Monitor non-rated functions and IEX result to identify trends and ensure goals are met
- Proactively review Quality issues and Feedback Form results for trending and root cause analysis
- Provide updates to leadership regarding team’s performance as well as any issues that arise
- Maintain and monitor KPIs needed to meet TAT and SLA
- Maintain backlog planner to proactively plan for staffing and volume needs
- Monitor assigned reports to ensure all functions are completed accurately and timely
- Prepare presentations as needed for monthly business reviews

- Directly engage with clients
- Influences or provides input to forecasting and planning activities
- Adapt departmental plans and priorities to address business and operational challenges
- Able to represent components of the Subrogation department to inter-departmental personnel and matrix partners
- Participate in applicable projects that drive process improvements
- Identify and resolves operational problems using defined processes, expertise and judgment

- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to: HIPAA, CMS, and State Specific Regulations
- Engage with in-house counsel to actively pursue improved negotiation strategies, aggressively pursue recovery & maintain compliance with subrogation law
- Attend and actively participate in department leadership meetings
- Perform other duties as assigned by Leadership

Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2+ years of subrogation, health insurance, collections and/or Property and Casualty (P&C) experience
- 1+ years of subrogation experience
- Intermediate proficiency of MS Word, Outlook, Excel & PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload, handle multiple tasks and work independently
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as to collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Demonstrated ability to assess and identify needs proactively
- Demonstrated ability to discuss and present on decisions made to appropriate internal and external individuals/groups
- Proven excellent communication skills both oral and written with solid presentation skills
- Proven solid analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to exercise good judgement
- Proven exceptional telephone and customer service skills: ability to handle escalate calls or engage directly with clients
- Proven open to change and new information: ability to adapt behavior and work methods to changing organization and integrate best practices into the subrogation recovery process
- Proven detail-oriented with solid organizational skills
The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
