UnitedHealth Group seeks an experienced Sr. Manager of Data Engineering to help support and grow our People Team – People Analytics function. This position will help to support the needs of the community, including human capital, talent acquisition, talent development, employee relations, and many more. The role will enable data solutions, implement and manage security, and interface with the user community, business stakeholders, and technology partners. This role will capture and define requirements for the development of new features and techniques needed by the community, manage technical projects, as well as troubleshoot existing functionality when needed. The role will also be accountable for ongoing training on best practices as technologies change.

For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Direct resource for executives or senior leadership
  • Lead a global data enablement team by setting goals, leading/mentoring, coaching, feedback loops, development plans, and performance assessment
  • Work collaboratively with other people analytics leaders in strategy, delivery, and enhancement
  • Challenge the status quo and influences senior leadership to adopt new ideas, products, and/or approaches
  • Be a thought leader; use subject matter expertise to influence and provide insight across the community
  • Be a key resource for complex issues, data discrepancies, and time sensitive requests
  • Assesses and interprets customer requests for feasibility, priority, and complexity and documents and delegates those requests within an agile/intake tool
  • Manage backlog of requests and priorities, ensure requests are aligned to priorities, and timelines
  • Lead projects and change initiatives aligned to key priorities of People Analytics
  • Provide timely written/verbal communications regarding project progress including deliverables, significant milestones, risks, and mitigation strategies to the leadership team.
  • Leads calls to advance technology, data, and innovation
  • Leads the design and implementation of scalable data architectures and pipelines to support advanced analytics and reporting
  • Develops and reviews work of others and provides guidance on execution, best practices, and areas for improvement
  • Solves unique and complex problems with broad impact on the business
  • Monitors industry trends and brings new approaches and innovative ideas to the community
  • Continuously drives and champions innovative operational process improvement through ongoing and systematic review of existing structures, workflows, processes, and procedures
  • Owns data strategy for aligned centers of excellence to establish/improve data stability, data portability, data accuracy, and automation
  • Maintains a solid executive presence and translates highly complex concepts in ways that can be understood by a variety of audiences
  • Understands and improves key stakeholder engagement of standard data solutions
  • Develops team that is being led to work towards employee career goals

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, or information security
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing cross-functional technical teams
  • 5+ years of experience with modern programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala
  • 5+ years of experience with SQL, ETL processes, and data modeling
  • 5+ years of experience with automation tools like GitHub Actions or Jenkins
  • 3+ years of experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • 3+ years of managing large-scale data projects and analytics platforms
  • Proven excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices
  • Proven solid understanding of data governance, security protocols, and compliance frameworks
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in a healthcare or highly regulated industry
  • Familiarity with BI tools such as Domo, Tableau, or Power BI
  • Background in Human Capital or People Team functions
  • Track record of implementing business continuity strategies
  • Experience with open-source analytics platforms and community engagement
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $110,200 to $188,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
