How can I apply to a job?

First, we are so excited you are interested in applying!

Here are a few things to keep in mind when looking to join us:

  • Please note that UnitedHealth Group will never request you download software or pay a fee of any sort to explore employment opportunities with our company. UnitedHealth Group will never conduct interviews via third-party instant messaging accounts. UnitedHealth Group does not require any purchase or payment to submit a resume or apply for a job.  Read our Fraudulent Activity statement and Blog post to learn more. 
  • Ensure you meet ALL of the minimum qualifications and MOST, if not ALL, of the preferred qualifications for your desired position.
  • Once you’ve selected a position of interest, click on the “Click Here to Apply” button. Complete the application process by filling out your profile and uploading a current resume. You can find some helpful resume building tips here.
  • Review your application, and click “Submit”.
  • You can return to My Profile at any time to check the status of your application.

How can I find jobs?

Click here to see all of our open positions.

To narrow down your job search, enter in a keyword (i.e. Customer Service), geographical location, or choose a job field at the top of the page and hit “Go.” All jobs matching your search criteria will appear. You can also narrow your search by telecommuter positions, job levels, business, part-time and more by using the “Narrow Your Search” search functionality on the left sidebar.

How can I increase my chances of getting an interview with UnitedHealth Group?

The most important thing you can do is apply to jobs where you meet ALL of required qualifications listed in the job posting. These are determined by the hiring manager and are 100% required to move forward in the process for any position. To have your best shot at getting an interview, it’s ideal to also meet most, if not all, of the preferred/desired qualifications.

 

Once you review a job description and determine that you meet ALL of the required qualifications, tailor your resume to the desired position. To tailor your resume, match keywords and terminology used in the posting with the bullet points in your resume. In addition, include a cover letter to express your reasons for applying.

What’s the status of my application?

Great question!  Here’s a short video to help you check the status of your application. If you don’t have time to watch the video, here’s what it tells you: 

Click on “My Profile” at the top right of any page and login using your username and password. Once logged in, click on the “My JobPage” button. This will list all of your submissions. Under each job title of the submission, there is a job status note that states where you are in the application process. Possible application statuses are:

  1. Application is under review
  2. Position has been filled
  3. Interview completed
  4. Recommended to Hiring Manager
  5. We are no longer accepting applications for this position

This information is available to you at all times and we encourage you to check periodically so you know where you are in the process.

Does UnitedHealth Group have Telecommuter positions?

We do have telecommuter positions! And even roles that aren’t posted as telecommute may offer some flexibility with working a day or two from home, depending upon the role and job requirements. 

There are some roles, like in customer service and claims, that you typically you have to earn the ability to work from home once you’ve met some established criteria. Click here to see all of our available telecommuting positions.

Can I apply from a mobile device?

Yes! We now offer the ability to apply from any mobile device, tablet or laptop computer. We want to make the application process as seamless as possible, and that means making it easier than ever for you to apply, wherever you are.

How can I talk to a recruiter?

Our recruiters are made available to chat with candidates online through our recruiter chat portal. Join our recruiters to ask questions about open positions, ask about the status of your application or even to get resume tips and interview advice. What about recruiting fraud?

We have received recent reports of fraudulent emails purporting to be sent from UnitedHealth Group, UnitedHealthcare, or Optum recruiting personnel. 
 
The fraudulent emails, which do not originate from any of UnitedHealth Group’s email domains, or those of any of its operating divisions, supposedly ask recipients to contact the sender to start the company’s hiring process by downloading software and/or requesting a fee. 

UnitedHealth Group will never request you download software or pay a fee of any sort to explore employment opportunities with our company.

If you wish to verify the legitimacy of any email purporting to have been sent by or on behalf of UnitedHealth Group recruiters, please call 1-800-561-0861 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. CT, Monday - Friday, for assistance. You also may inquire via email to lifesbestwork@uhg.com

What can I do to improve my resume?

A few quick suggestions are:

Format your resume for the position you are applying to. Read the job description first and locate keywords based on the required skills and experience. Add those same keywords to your resume to highlight your qualifications. Be sure to also go through each responsibility for the role and ensure you proactively address those responsibilities on your resume.

What happens after I apply?

Once you’ve applied, you’ll receive an automated email confirming your submission; (note:  if you don’t see this email, be sure to check your "junk mail" folder!). Please know that some opportunities with UnitedHealth Group get a very high volume of applicants so the selection process may take some time. Individuals who are selected and have best met ALL of the basic requirements of a position, and most of the preferred qualifications, may receive a pre-screening phone interview with a recruiter. If at any time you are no longer being considered for a position, we’ll send you an email to let you know.

What is TRICARE?
