    Veterans Job Mission:

    In 2012, UnitedHealth Group joined the 100,000 Jobs Mission, a coalition of U.S. corporations sharing the goal of hiring 100,000 transitioning service members and military veterans by 2020.

    As of March 31, 2015, the coalition has collectively hired 241,833 U.S. Military veterans and is now committed to hire 1 million veterans.

    Paralyzed Veterans of America:

    Paralyzed Veterans of America and UnitedHealth Group have formed a strategic partnership to help veterans transition to civilian life and navigate the complex landscape of finding jobs.

    Employee Support of the Guard & Reserve (ESGR):

    Since 2012, UnitedHealth Group has upheld our Employee Support of the Guard and Reserve, affirming the company's commitment to its employees who are retired, active-duty and reserve military personnel.

    Local Outreach:

    UnitedHealth Group has formed partnerships with state workforce agencies, Vocational Rehabilitation, Agencies Veteran Affairs and the Wounded Warrior Project regional offices nationwide.

    Each quarter, we reach out to more than 300 military and disability organizations nationwide to develop relationships and to help promote job opportunities in areas with high volume hiring.

    Innovation Partnership with Veterans Affairs:

    UnitedHealth Group is a founding partner with the VA Center of Innovation (formerly the VAi2) and has been collaborating closely with their team since 2012.

    The goal of this partnership is to leverage the resources of both UnitedHealth Group and the Veterans Administration to facilitate significant creative innovation. By collaborating and sharing of ideas, new concepts, and unique expertise, innovation opportunities can be shared and leveraged to ensure the most meaningful and effective services are available for our Veterans.

    Ride 2 Recovery:

    UnitedHealthcare is a lead sponsor of Ride 2 Recovery, providing financial, in-kind and volunteer support at cycling events across the country to help injured veterans recover from physical and mental wounds suffered in combat. Click here to learn more.

    My Career Advancement Account Scholarship:

    UnitedHealth Group is a partner of myCAA Scholarship a workforce development program that provides up to $4,000 of tuition assistance to eligible military spouses. The scholarship helps military spouses pursue licenses, certificates, certifications or associate degrees necessary to gain employment in high-demand, high-growth portable career fields and occupations.

    The scholarships are designed to further portable careers for spouses, and can be used to pay for education, training and testing in hundreds of occupations. Funds can cover occupational license or credential examinations, and associated courses.

    ESGR (Employee Support of the Guard and Reserve) Above and Beyond Award:
    • In 2016, UnitedHealth Group received this award that recognizes employers who goes above and beyond to providing their Guard and Reserve employees additional, non-mandated benefits such as differential or full pay to offset lost wages, extended health benefits, and other similar benefits.

    • The military skills translator tool gives candidates a better understanding of how their military skills translate to open jobs at UnitedHealth Group. Veteran job seekers can immediately map their experience to viable career opportunities
    UnitedHealthcare Military & Veterans:
    • In 2013, they became the managed care support contractor for the Department of Defense’s TRICARE West Region, serving nearly 2.9 million military service member retirees and their families in 21 states.
    Many Strong:
    • In 2011, UnitedHealth Group launched Many Strong, an online tool designed to assist individuals as they support each other through serious medical and difficult life events. The tool empowers friends and families to help each other through messaging and encouragement, donations and giving gifts of help.

    Employee Education:
    • Our “Hiring from the Military” course was designed to help managers understand commonly held myths about military personnel, educate them on appropriate interviewing questions, and help them identify how military skill sets translate into our careers and values. Since 2013, UnitedHealth Group has been using this comprehensive, computer-based training for hiring managers.
    Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation:
    We Honor Veterans:
    • Optum’s hospice care team provides specialized care and support to Veterans and their families facing terminal illness.
    • “We Honor Veterans” provides hospice professionals with training on how to best serve Veterans through the challenges they may be facing from illness, isolation or traumatic life events.

    Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP):
    • Since 2011, UnitedHealth Group continues to actively participate in job fairs and recruiting events sponsored by military communities to support hiring military spouses. Open positions are promoted through the MSEP and communication channels.
    Blue Star Families Fellowship Program:
    • UnitedHealth Group and Blue Star Families, the nation’s largest chapter-based military families organization, launched the Blue Star Families Fellowship Program to support and empower military families.
    • Three appointed military spouses have been named ambassadors to serve as a vital link between military and civilian leadership communities.
    Community of Veterans (COV):
    • UnitedHealthcare Military & Veterans is a co-underwriter for COV. A confidential, online social network and mental health support program designed to facilitate connections between veterans who are transitioning home, regardless of whether they self-identify as struggling with mental health problems or not.
    • This peer-to-peer online support group includes groups for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). It has launched Vets Prevail, an innovative mental health tool that incorporates interactive multimedia e-learning lessons, peer support, diagnostic self-assessments and proprietary software for scheduling and tracking user activities, thoughts and feelings.
    National Military Family Association:
    • UnitedHealth Group awarded a $100,000 grant to help military spouses complete clinical licensure requirements in the mental health profession.
    Affordable Housing Communities:
    • Since 2011, UnitedHealth Group has provided more than $150 million to finance affordable-housing communities with supportive services throughout the U.S. These investments have included building affordable housing in communities with large veteran populations.
    Advocacy Work:
    • UnitedHealth Group is committed to military spouses' education and employment. We provide financial grants to military spouses pursing vocational certifications, GEDs, English-as-a-second-language courses, and a host of other scholarships designed to help military spouses complete their educations and pursue rewarding careers, despite the challenges of the military lifestyle.
    Fisher House:
    • UnitedHealth Group funds programs to assist the families of wounded U.S. military members. For instance, Fisher House provides a wide range of services and support to the families of wounded U.S. military. This funding helps support lodging and support costs for all families staying at Fisher House locations through their “Sponsor a Family” program.
    • The Fisher House at Camp Pendleton will open mid-2015 and will support nearby Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton. This is the first Fisher House location that’s supported by a sole funder.
