Employee wellbeing, a priority at UnitedHealth Group

Guest Blogger: Ishaa S., TA Manager, Bollywood lover and a mom to be.

Becoming a mom for the first time is both nerve wrecking and super exciting. There are a lot of unknowns, and while we want to do our best for unborn, it’s just not easy to know exactly what to do and how to do. As a first timer to pregnancy I was absolutely clueless about things and apparently everyone seemed to have different ideas, opinions, and a ‘right’ way of doing things, and there I was trying to find answers to my pregnancy questions flipping windows of various maternity applications on my phone and search engines.

In my quest of finding my go-to app for maternity, I got to know of an in house maternity program we have at UnitedHealth Group called CareNine. Initially, I didn’t enroll myself for the program thinking it’ll be time consuming and will only give a diet chart suitable for all 3 trimesters, (which much to my doctor’s delight, I was anyway following). However, it was only after a couple of weeks that another colleague mentioned about it and I thought of giving it a try and enrolled myself. But what I experienced was much beyond my expectation. I was so delighted to see that these are not just maternity classes or one way online sessions but it’s one on one discussion with professional Gynecologists. They carefully listened to my health history, provided expert consultation & guidance and I was so comfortable to ask anything and everything I wanted to ask, which I could never approach my regular OB.

Not just this, I even have calls scheduled with fitness experts and special maternity dietitian calling me and I have liberty of choosing the time slots at my convenience, and it doesn’t end there- the most exciting part is the call set up with behavioral therapist to help me deal with the stress and anxiety of being a first time mom and this is not just for me but for my spouse/caregiver as well!

There’s an immense sense of gratitude I have for my company- knowing that my organization cares for my health and wellbeing just like my family.

In fact, not just me, even my family is extremely impressed with the informative and helpful sessions I get to be a part of. All I can say is I’ve always been a passionate employee but now I am a proud employee.
