Sometimes the greatest gift you can offer another person is the ability to see things their way. For Gabriela, that skill is essential to her role in finding solutions that satisfy both patients and service providers. It comes down to perspective, compassion, and patience. Which also explains why she’s so passionate about photography. “When I put the lens on my camera, I’m immediately transported and become part of the environment,” she says. “In that moment, I can turn the smallest things into a spectacle.” For Gabriela, photography is a gift of extraordinary insight. For us, the gift is having Gabriela on our team.
How do you describe your job to family and friends?
I work in the licensing department handling the provider network. In my job, I assist patients and service providers with their requests.
What are some of the greatest challenges you need to take on in order to be successful in your role?
One of the greatest challenges in our department is showing members we can solve their problems the best way possible.
When you’re facing those challenges, what are some of your personal strengths and abilities that come into play?
I draw on my strengths in compassion, focus and persistence. I try to put myself in the customer's shoes to understand his or her difficulties, and that compassion helps me work it out the best way possible.
How do those same strengths show up in your passion outside of work?
Compassion and focus are also embedded in my photography. To take a good photo, I need focus, persistence and patience. Those skills are just as important when I'm solving a problem for a member.
