The zone. It's where everything else falls away except for sounds pulsing through headphones and the feel of total, sweet, synchronization between mind, body and game. That's where Oswald is when we photograph him at his passion – deep in the world of a serious gamer. We can see his eyes moving and wrist tendons flexing, and we know something significant is happening behind his calm yet alert expressions as he focuses on the game in front of him. Considering he spends his days developing applications for health care problems, working at a rapid pace, analyzing data, making deductions and adapting to new situations, we can tell he's right at home in either place.

"The longest time I've spent playing video games? A day and a half. That's pretty similar to the time I'll spend on a really challenging issue at work."

How do you describe what you do to family and friends?

I create applications that make it easy for people to access health care products.

What is the biggest challenge of your job?

In this role, I have to wear many hats, learn fast and get results—fast. It's a very quick environment that demands quick decisions.

Do you see any overlap between your job and your passion?

Well, I have to do the same thing when I'm gaming: it's a fast pace, and I have to adapt and make decisions in order to win. When I'm facing new challenges at work, my ability to quickly deduce a situation based on little information gets me far.

What do you love most about your job?

I love being exposed to so many areas and learning opportunities. Just like gaming, there's a great thrill that comes from the competition, the collaboration and the pleasure of winning.

What's important to you about your passion?

After a long day at work I really enjoy settling in and playing a couple of video games. It's so relaxing to play for a few hours and forget about everything else.

How have you grown at UnitedHealth Group?

Being at UnitedHealth Group has exposed me to a lot of people who are professionally inclined. The people here have so much knowledge they're willing to share, and being so close to such intelligent people enables me to speed up my career progress.

What should someone know before joining our company?

I think any prospective applicant should understand UnitedHealth Group's position in the health care industry, and the powerful impact we can make on it.

Favorite person, living or dead?

Nelson Mandela, because he experienced so much struggle and still served his people for the best.

Favorite food?

Spicy Indian and Ghanaian food!

Favorite movie and why?

Les dieux sont tombés sur la tête (The Gods Must Be Crazy)—it's so far-fetched and funny!

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

People are usually surprised to learn that I paint; I just zone in and do it for hours. I paint with acrylics and more recently, oils.

Most grateful for?

I'm most grateful for my family, because they're a really great support system. I'm also grateful for the friends I make at work.
