Associate Director of Affordability plays a key role in the performance of the Optum’s West Region. Focusing on implementation at the market level, this role will work in close partnership with senior operational and clinical market leaders, as well as regional affordability lane leads. This position is instrumental in the identification and implementation of strategies designed to impact the overall cost of care for the market’s risk population through achieving best-in-class clinical outcomes for patients. It reports into the Senior Director of Affordability Market Enablement and involves close partnership with market leadership teams including Market Presidents and Chief Medical Officers (CMOs).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop a regular reporting and meeting cadence with market leadership (CMO/VPs) to provide insights into affordability performance, develop mitigation tactics, and scope emerging opportunities
  • Lead and/or participate in cross-functional work streams including providing project management support and understanding market nuances such as EMR capabilities, IT infrastructure, and key stakeholder engagement for successful implementation
  • Partner closely with regional affordability leaders to understand identified strategies and translate into an implementation plan at the market level
  • Define KPIs and processes to monitor the performance of strategies post-implementation to ensure ongoing program success
  • Participate in and/or facilitate regular touchpoints between regional affordability leaders and market leadership
  • Data Analytics including ability to structure and analyze data, identify expense trends and drivers to form high level conclusions or recommendations
  • Lead through influence to drive market prioritization and adoption of regional and nationally identified affordability programs
  • Participate in the market’s annual affordability planning process, which may include A3 and charter development
  • May supervise a team of affordability consultants or analysts

Required Qualifications: 

  • 3+ years of experience in healthcare operations, project management and process improvement in a matrixed environment
  • Project Management experience 
  • Lean Green Belt, Six Sigma or similar experience using process improvement methodologies
  • Knowledgeable about value-based care with a solid understanding of the clinical levers that impact patients outcomes and market performance
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint, experience with Smart Sheet

  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Consulting experience, or similar experience driving change based on analytics
  • Proven ability to navigate diverse groups of regional and central teammates through complex issues
  • Proven “Yes, we can!’ solution-oriented mentality to problem solving
  • Proven process improvement mentality

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
