Primary Responsibilities:

  • Database Support and Monitoring – Make requested changes, updates and modifications to database structure and data. Ensure database security, integrity, stability, and system availability.  Maintain database backup and recovery infrastructure.  Perform SQL database monitoring via RedGate and build, maintain, and react on SQL database alerts
  • Database System Architecture and Design – Document and maintain SQL configuration standards for the platform.  Consult with engineering teams to define architectural patterns for new applications requiring relational databases including server and database level design.  Perform code reviews as needed
  • Capacity Planning – Monitor database and server level resource usage and proactively adjust as necessary.  Generate SQL database performance baselines.  Proactively plan for impacts due to implementations, increasing capacity as needed
  • SQL Database Security Control – Build and maintain database security model and policies.  Follow “the least privilege principle” policy and maintain Windows and SQL accounts and permissions.  Enforce SQL database security according to Optum policy.  Perform regular SQL database security reviews. Participate and assist with all auditing events for user security
  • Performance Tuning – Review SQL database performance regularly.  Provide database tuning on queries, indexes, blockings, wait types, deadlocks, execution plans, etc.  Assist with performance tuning of custom and vendor code
  • Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). The Company may adopt, vary or rescind these policies and directives in its absolute discretion and without any limitation (implied or otherwise) on its ability to do so

Required Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server products, including installation and configuration, patching, database design, upgrade and migration
  • Production support, with On-Call experience
  • PowerShell experience
  • In depth knowledge of DB HA/DR solutions, capacity planning, replication, AlwaysOn AG, and database security
  • Solid TSQL code development skills
  • Familiar with SQL monitoring tools, including RedGate.  Solid SQL performance tuning experience with complex queries
  • Solid knowledge of database components and operations on cloud services, particularly in Azure and AWS
  • Maintain and track planned work using Rally by creating Capabilities, Features and User Stories following OCSP and Optum Rally guidelines and structure
  • Work assigned incident and change tasks in Service Now supporting our business partners and engineering teams.
  • Document processes and standards, including diagrams when needed, to communicate and share within our team as well as others

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Rally experience, Agile skills, On Call team member, experience with Change data capture, Cloud database experience, MS office user
