Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist in determining accurate code selection, communication requests and educational information (both written and oral) to internal and external customers, to assist the department in meeting their goals
- Provide timely and consistent information regarding ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, MS-DRG’s, modifiers, HCPCS and APC’s coding to Allina coders so that they can assign the most accurate codes for data collection and reimbursement
- Serve as a resource for coding questions
- Recommend changes to enhance department productivity and effectiveness and maintain Allina’s DNFB
- Daily problem solve
- Participate in ongoing audits
- Assist in the completion of Excellian Work queues
- Active in reviewing new staff training outcomes
- Evaluates the medical record for procedures and diagnoses documented in the medical record and accurately assigns ICD-10, MS-DRG’s, HCPCS’s, Modifiers, and CPT-4 codes, based on National Coding Guidelines.

Required Qualifications:
- One of the following certifications:
- Registered Health Information Administrator – American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
- Registered Health Information Technician – American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
- Certified Coding Specialist – American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) – American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)
- 2+ years of coding experience
- Must be 18 years or older
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Administration
- Associate’s or Vocational degree in Health Information Technician
- Coding experience for credentialed RHIT or RHIA
- Experience in ICD10 CM & PCS
- Epic Experience
