Role Details: At Optum we are looking for a detail-oriented, experienced Senior Software Development Engineer in Test to help architect, design, build robust automation tools and framework to tackle hard to solve problems with a passion for quality to ensure delivery of robust software product solutions for our internal and external customers. Your role will work very closely with the members of a cross-functional delivery team and will be focused on test case creation, manual test execution and creating and maintaining test automation, ensuring testability of the developed components while reporting qualitative results against established targets. You will build test automation with the goal of providing maximum coverage in the most efficient manner. You are also responsible for ensuring that the test infrastructure is easily maintainable and can scale to the demands of a rapid continuous integration continuous deployment environment. 

 

This position is an individual contributor role and reports to onshore Manager. 

 

Job Role: Senior Quality Engineer

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Champion for product quality within the team and is accountable for an assessment of product readiness and commitments on product delivery schedules 
  • Design and develop a robust test automation framework using Playwright JS framework, GitHub Actions, and JMeter for load testing
  • Create and maintain automated test scripts for functional, regression, and performance testing
  • Work closely with QA managers and stakeholders to define test automation strategies and best practices
  • Identify, prioritize, and resolve test automation issues and challenges
  • Continuously enhance and optimize the test automation framework to improve test coverage, efficiency, and reliability
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior members of the QA team
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in test automation tools and techniques
  • Work with Product and Development teams to design and implement Test Strategy to deliver quality consumer software product
  • Implement Test Automation leveraging test automation frameworks while driving processes to reduce manual test coverage
  • Ensure our products meet high standards of quality, performance, Security, and reliability
  • Help writing test plans, test cases, and provide suggestion in improving the QA processes
  • Review and critique of technical requirements and software design specifications and software implementation
  • Assist the dev team in the analysis of defects and track them to successful resolution 
  • Follow the organization’s established policies and procedures when implementing automated tests
  • Provide comprehensive status reports to QA management
  • Leverage communication, documentation, preparation, and training to educate other disciplines in regard to the established QA Automation processes
  • Support program management teams, as needed, according to the schedule of releases 
  • Actively research new tools/methods that could prove beneficial in the implementation of Automated Tests
  • Manage all test execution and defects in any given test management tool; Lead defect triage to effectively report all defects to the Scrum team
  • Perform manual exploratory testing to help identify difficult to find bugs and UX issues 
  • Work with a distributed agile team

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience in Manual and automation of Web services (Rest, GraphQL) using API testing tools such as Postman, GraphQL Playground, or similar tools 
  • Experience with CI/CD and project management tools (e.g., Github, CI/CD tools, Jenkins, Rally, Share point, etc.) 
  • Extensive experience in test automation architecture and framework development
  • Experience with any JavaScript test automation frameworks (e.g., NodeJs / Cypress/Cucumber/ WebdriverIO / Puppeteer/ Selenium/Playwright/ Mocha/Protractor and willingness to learn new tools as necessary) 
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment
  • Experience in Manual and automation of Web services (Rest, GraphQL) using API testing tools such as Postman, GraphQL Playground, or similar tools
  • Expertise in using GitHub Actions for continuous integration and deployment
  • In-depth knowledge of JMeter for load testing and performance monitoring
  • Solid understanding of software testing principles, methodologies, and best practices
  • Solid proficiency in Playwright JS framework for web application testing
  • Proven solid analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proven excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Proven enthusiasm for finding and fixing broken things every single day 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science, or related field and 8+ years of work experience in relevant roles 
  • 8+ years developing, executing, and maintaining automated test scripts
  • CI experience to enable automated test execution with tools like GitHub Actions Preferred ( Jenkins, CircleCI, or Bamboo etc)
  • Experience with cross-browser compatibility testing methodologies and practices 
  • Playwright experience and proficiency
  • Deep understanding of software quality methodologies and processes 
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker
  • Well versed with concepts of Performance and Load Testing with JMeter 
  • Proficiency in any JS test automation frameworks (e.g., Node JS / Cypress/Cucumber/ Web Driver IO / Puppeteer/ Selenium/Playwright/ Mocha/Protractor and willingness to learn new tools as necessary) 
  • Proficiency in writing and modifying DB Queries 
  • Demonstrated solid ability to debug code, analyzes failures, and trace defects to the root cause. 
  • Proven comfortable working in a dynamic, low structure, constantly changing atmosphere; able to prioritize work appropriately across changing contexts. 
  • Proven enthusiasm for finding and fixing broken things every single day 
  • Demonstrated aptitude for triaging, troubleshooting, and thoroughly testing complex systems 
  • Proven exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, including working with individuals in different geographical locations and time-zones
