The EHR Clinical Applications Capability Lead will help create and foster a culture of diversity & inclusion and must be a self-motivated individual with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well in team environments.
The EHR Clinical Applications Capability Lead is accountable for overall leadership, operations management and service delivery for all clinical IT applications in the EHR ecosystem in support of all Market Performance Partnerships at Optum. This role will work collaboratively with other leaders to execute on the strategies and plans of the organization. The position will be responsible for leading efforts to standardize, optimize, and drive efficiency across clinical applications within IT operations, increasing the ability to scale making healthcare more affordable through lower operating costs and ensuring skillsets are maximized. This position is responsible for leveraging technology solutions to enable delivery transformation.
Position in this function is reporting to the SVP, Health Systems CIO, success depends on driving efficiency, effective partnership, influence, and collaboration across various functions of Optum Insight, including but not limited to: Account Leadership, Operations, Product, Managed Services, Professional Services, Technology Solutions, Compliance, Marketing, Finance, and People teams. You must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy, including design-thinking experience, a big picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Driving strategy for transformational delivery of IT services in the clinical applications EHR ecosystem across multiple clients
- Designing delivery programs, systems, and capabilities required to meet contractual obligations for clinical applications across multiple clients that concurrently drive operational efficiency, improve provider experience, and comply with regulatory requirements
- Driving high-quality execution and operational excellence that support the organization’s growth and optimization strategies specific to Market Performance Partnerships (MPP)
- Accountable for driving financial management, remediation and cost mitigation efforts across the EHR ecosystem while working in a matrixed environment
- Successfully manage and develop leaders who are responsible for managing large complex functions and clients
- Collaborate with and seek to influence leaders across the various functions to deliver effective outcomes, programs, and service offerings to align with organizational goals and objectives
- Create a highly engaged workforce, assure performance goals are achieved and support ongoing improvement of customer satisfaction and growth
- Accountable for resource management of clinical applications within IT operations across multiple clients in partnership with the MPP IT Delivery Leader (IDL) and Service
- Delivery Leader (SDL) requests
- Responsible for daily operations of team members performing EHR services across all clinical applications for multiple clients
- Oversight and coordination of implementation of best practices and improvements to drive operating efficiencies across application teams.
- Partner with MPP IT Delivery Leaders (IDLs) to drive EHR application project prioritization and scoping.
- Provide leadership and strategic direction for delivery teams; hold capability leaders accountable for performance and coordinate support on complex and challenging tasks.
- Supervise clinical/EHR application design, development, maintenance activities of applications under direct purview
- Manage financial and non-financial MBOs and targets.
- Collaborate with key internal and external business partners to stay abreast of changes in the healthcare space
- Engage in cross functional collaboration to ensure compliance with licensing and regulatory requirements
- Communicate effectively and accurately in writing and verbally to teams, clients, and other staff.
- Demonstrate strong relationship management skills and ability to handle challenging interpersonal situations
- Implement appropriate service delivery models for relevant application functions in defining, delivering, and improving services for the organization.
- Serve as an escalation point within capability for vendor management and coordination with account leaders
- Serve as a mentor, resource, and primary advisor for all direct reports

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information assurance, MIS or related field, or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of HealthCare technology leadership experience with at least five of those years working directly with EHR systems and four years resource management and/or large-scale project management
- 5+ years of experience leading and executing on complex IT managed services delivery (including oversight of strategy/technical roadmap, financials/budget, contracts, and client relationships)
- 5+ years of experience leading distributed global delivery teams
- 5+ years of experience with successfully implementing and supporting highly scalable technology solutions for clients
- Willing and able to travel up to 25%
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree, an MBA or master’s degree in information assurance/technology, health administration, data science or healthcare
- Experience influencing, problem solving and negotiation skills
- Experience managing delivery teams with gross margin targets
- Proficiency with MS Project, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
- Demonstrated success building relationships and accomplishing common goals for clients
- Proven to possess excellent team management, communication and leadership skills and a commitment to fostering diversity, inclusion, and a culture of innovation
- Proven track record as a team leader with an understanding of management practices
Key Competencies:
- Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills and ability to balance multiple priorities
- In-depth knowledge of EHR and other clinical applications for the full implementation lifecycle of EHR suite of applications
- Develop and implement performance improvement initiatives aimed at improving end user service, operating costs, group functions & productivity
- Demonstrate the ability to build and maintain steady internal relationships as well as motivate and inspire other team members through solid consultative skills
- Demonstrate an ability to build partnerships and influence others. Work across team, group and business boundaries to steer commonality and reusability in solution to real-world problems
- Demonstrate excellent relationship management skills and ability to handle challenging interpersonal situations
- Deliver operational efficiency, quality, and financial performance

The salary range for this role is $150,200 to $288,500 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
