The Member and Veteran Liaison is located in Phoenix, Arizona, and is experienced in working with individuals including members with special healthcare needs, veterans, families, youth, advocates and key stakeholders. The Member and Veteran Liaison and staff directly reporting to this position are involved in community events.
If you are located within a commutable distance of Phoenix, AZ, this hybrid role offers the opportunity to work at our Phoenix office for two days per week, remotely for three days per week, with up to 10% travel based on business needs.
The position serves as the point of contact within the organization and in the community on behalf of members and family members. This position works closely with other member support areas, including but not limited to the Behavioral Health, Member Services, Provider Services, Care Management, and Quality Management. This position is responsible for program planning and development, implementing, managing, and coordinating services according to state contract requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Communicate and disseminate information to members and families to identify concerns and remove barriers that affect service delivery or member satisfaction
- Attend community events representing the health plan by offering education on Medicaid benefits and community resources to members and families
- Support Dual Special Needs (DSNP) members by outreaching to individuals to educate on ways to improve health outcomes
- Help veteran members understand their Medicaid, DSNP (Medicare), and VA benefits
- Engage with veterans’ members in a one-on-one environment to mimic the environment of support that they became accustomed to in the military
- Train health plan staff on the cultural competencies of veterans and their families
- Identify veteran members and organize outreach activities to inform members and families of the benefits available and how to access those services
- Develops and submit Member and Provider educational materials as it relates to member advocacy, special needs population, and veteran members and families
- Collaborate with the organization’s other member support areas, including but not limited to Long Term Care, Office of Individual and Family Affairs (OIFA), Member Services, and Provider Services
- Collaborate with the AHCCCS Human Rights Committee (HRC) Coordinator
- Represent the health plan at Independent Oversight Committee (IOC) meetings
- Set team direction, resolve problems and provides guidance to members of own team
- Carry out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and regulatory requirements
- May lead functional or segment teams or projects
- Adapts departmental plans and priorities to address business and operational challenges
- Represents the department in assigned Plan committees / meetings
- Assists with program improvement projects
- Monitor of Regulator Care Todays and resolve per expected timelines
- Works closely with Business Partners to ensure regulatory compliance is met
- Assists with program improvement projects and complex conceptual analyses
- Prepare regulatory reports as required
- Complete special projects as assigned
- Demonstrate ability to focus health plan activities toward a strategic direction as well as develop tactical plan, drive performance and achieve targets
- Contributes to developing new programs specific to the state requirements
- Overall responsibility for workflow activities & activities for designated teams
- Adhere to ethical, legal / regulatory and accreditation standards to meet business goals and objectives
- Communicate with providers and members as needed
- Ensures teams meet established performance metrics and performance guarantees
- Adapts departmental plans and priorities to address business and operational challenges

Required Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience with outreach activities (Community Outreach) and the ability to summarize data and initiate program initiatives
- 1+ years of team lead, supervisory, and/or management experience
- 1+ years of Behavioral Health experience
- Experience in a deadline driven environment (submitting reports timely)
- Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Able to travel up to 10% within the state based on business needs
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years of Behavioral or Physical Health experience
- Work or lived experience with military, veterans or service family members
- Experience with Regulatory Reporting and working on Projects
- Experience working for a Medicaid and/or Medicare health care regulator, provider, or insurance organization
- Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely, convey complex or technical information in a manner that others can understand and interrelate with individuals at various levels
- Proven motivates and inspires other team members
The salary range for this role is $71,600 to $140,600 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
