As a Senior Software Engineer I in the Enterprise Security & Resiliency Office (ESRO), you’ll join a talented platform engineering team focused on building secure, scalable, and developer-centric solutions. In this role, you’ll design and develop AI-powered assistants, enterprise search infrastructure, and internal developer utilities that enable engineers across UnitedHealth Group to adopt secure-by-default practices and deliver high-quality software at scale. You’ll collaborate closely with UX designers, product managers, and fellow engineers to build powerful, reusable systems that play a critical role in advancing the organization’s strategy for secure cloud-native development and responsible generative AI adoption.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain full-stack tools and services that streamline developer workflows using React, Node.js, and Express
- Develop intelligent assistants, enterprise search features, asset tracking capabilities, and internal utilities using generative AI, knowledge graphs, and platform APIs
- Write secure, maintainable, and well-tested code focused on scalability, performance, and developer experience
- Investigate and resolve bugs, conduct root cause analysis, and contribute to continuous improvement of platform reliability
- Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and engineers to define and deliver impactful features
- Work closely with teams that manage Systems of Record to query, sanitize, and ingest data into platform knowledge graphs
- Contribute to architectural decisions, shared frameworks, and coding standards that drive consistency and reuse
- Support the adoption of platform tooling through clear documentation, technical support, and peer mentorship
- Participate in code reviews and cross-functional discussions to ensure alignment and knowledge sharing
- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to help evolve the platform’s technical direction
- Use data-driven thinking to uncover insights that enhance platform capabilities and improve enterprise security posture

Required Qualifications:
- Candidate should hold graduation degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience delivering scalable software systems, with deep experience in full-stack development
- Experience building reusable UI components and scalable APIs using REST and GraphQL
- Hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks such as Jest, Playwright, or equivalent
- Experience delivering applications on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Solid full-stack development experience using JS/TS, React, and Node.js
- Familiarity with writing high-performance SQL queries and working with both relational (e.g., PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB) databases
- Familiarity with GitHub and modern DevOps workflows, including CI/CD pipelines and GitHub Actions
- Solid understanding of secure coding practices and modern application security principles
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, agile environments with globally distributed teams
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity, shifting priorities, and balancing quality with timely delivery
- Proven excellent problem-solving skills, communication abilities, and a proactive, collaborative mindset
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience integrating large language models (LLMs) or generative AI into developer tools or enterprise platforms
- Experience working with both MongoDB and PostgreSQL in production environments
- Experience deploying and managing applications in containerized environments using Kubernetes (EKS, AKS)
- Proficiency with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code workflows
- Familiarity with enterprise search technologies such as Meilisearch or Elasticsearch
- Background in developer portals, internal platform engineering, or developer experience teams
- Exposure to observability and error monitoring tools, as well as developer productivity analytics
- Understanding of security and compliance automation in CI/CD pipelines, especially within GitHub Actions
