Optum is looking for an experienced and inquisitive UX Designer to help us make a meaningful impact within our digital prior authorization product. This role is an exciting opportunity to build a new product from the ground up within Optum Insight’s Innovation portfolio. Prior authorization can be the source of healthcare friction and delays, but advances in generative AI present the potential for transformative solutions that dramatically reduce the time and effort involved.  This is one of the most challenging and rewarding areas of product design. We are seeking someone who loves to understand user needs and workflows to create informed and targeted designs.

This position will work closely with a product manager, user researchers, and our team of clinicians to understand healthcare, business, and user needs.  They will positively impact the overall flow and design while following a user-centered design process. This person will partner with user interface designers, other UX designers, web developers and UX managers to translate information architecture, navigation and process flows into easy-to-use and aesthetically beautiful solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

*    Collaborate with stakeholders including UX Leads, Product Managers and Development Managers to identify, prioritize and implement design solutions in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
*    Gather insights, prototyping concepts and validating solutions with users to inform design decisions
*    Critique in-progress design work, evaluating the priority and effectivity of solutions
*    Communicating the user experience at various stages of the design process by using wireframes, flow diagrams, sketches, storyboards, mockups, and prototypes
*    Leveraging and contributing to existing design pattern libraries and interface guidelines
*    Work on one or more design projects from start to finish while meeting creative, technical and business requirements

Required Qualifications:
*    2+ years of visual/graphic design, interaction design and user-centered design 
*    Experience designing for mobile and/or responsive web 
*    Experience in creating wireframe designs, visual graphics, interactive mockups, user workflows, and prototypes suitable for usability testing
*    Demonstrated solid portfolio of past UX/IA projects including task flows, site maps, wireframes
*    In-depth experience with Figma
*    Proven ability to create clean, visually consistent designs
*    Demonstrated ability to work independently 
*    Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with team and internal clients
*    Demonstrated ability to receive and provide design critique with a team of designers

 

Preferred Qualifications:
*    Experience with enterprise software and healthcare domain
*    Experience in practical application of accessibility factors, per ADA Section 508 requirements and W3C WAI guidelines
*    Experience in group facilitation, user interviews, heuristic evaluations, task analysis, and usability testing
*    Involvement in the UX community (e.g. meet-ups, clubs, conferences)
*    Knowledge of user interaction analytics and measurements
*    Demonstrated solid understanding of how healthcare prior authorization process works, including experience user testing with realistic users

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $71,200 to $127,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
