This position is National Remote. You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in Minneapolis, Virginia, Maryland, or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office for a minimum of four (4) days per week.

The Senior Instructional Designer is part of the Optum Enterprise Training (OET) organization and serves as the dedicated instructional design partner supporting Genoa Healthcare. While aligned to enterprise learning strategies, standards, and technologies, this role is exclusively focused on supporting Genoa's business priorities and workforce development needs.
In this role, you will serve as a strategic learning consultant to operational leaders, subject matter experts, trainers, and stakeholders across Genoa Healthcare. You will lead the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of learning solutions that support onboarding, pharmacy operations, customer service, regulatory compliance, leadership development, system implementations, and organizational change initiatives.
The ideal candidate combines expertise in instructional design, adult learning theory, performance consulting, and learning technologies with strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills. This role requires the ability to independently manage complex learning initiatives while balancing enterprise standards with Genoa-specific business requirements.
This position is full time. Employees are required to have flexibility to work during our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
This will be on-the-job training. The hours of training will be based on your schedule or will be discussed on your first day of employment.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as the dedicated instructional design partner for Genoa Healthcare, consulting with business leaders and stakeholders to align learning strategies with organizational goals.
- Lead the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative learning solutions that support operational excellence, compliance, onboarding, leadership development, and organizational change.
- Conduct performance consulting and learning needs assessments to identify root causes of business challenges and recommend effective learning and performance solutions.
- Manage multiple complex learning projects and initiatives simultaneously, ensuring alignment with business priorities, enterprise standards, and project timelines.
- Measure learning effectiveness through learner data, operational metrics, and business outcomes, leveraging insights to drive continuous improvement and demonstrate impact.
- Partner with Optum Enterprise Training colleagues, subject matter experts, and cross-functional stakeholders to develop scalable, high-quality learning experiences that enhance workforce capability and performance.

Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma / GED.
- Must be 18 years of age OR older.
- 5+ years of instructional design experience in corporate learning, workforce development, adult education, or related environment.
- 5+ years of experience applying adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies.
- 3+ years of experience developing learning solutions using Articulate Storyline, Rise, or similar authoring tools.
- 3+ years of experience designing and developing virtual instructor-led and blended learning programs.
- 2+ years of experience leading instructional design projects from analysis through implementation.
- Experience conducting learning needs assessments and performance consulting activities.
- Experience working with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and SCORM-compliant content.
- Experience partnering with business leaders and subject matter experts to develop performance-based learning solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities independently.
- Written, verbal, facilitation, consulting, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Outlook.
- Ability to work full time. Employees are required to have flexibility to work during our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Organizational Development, Communications, Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
- Experience supporting healthcare, pharmacy operations, customer service, contact center, or regulated environments.
- Experience supporting organizational change and business transformation initiatives.
- Experience developing compliance and regulatory training programs.
- Experience measuring learning effectiveness and demonstrating business impact through analytics and operational metrics.
- Graphic design, multimedia development, video production, or content creation experience.
- Experience mentoring instructional designers, trainers, or learning professionals.
- Ability to influence stakeholders and drive alignment across multiple functional areas.
- Excellent organizational, prioritization, and relationship management skills.

- Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy.
- Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $72,800 - $130,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
