The Operational Excellence (OpEx) Coach will report to the Director of Operational Excellence and will facilitate and support process improvement teams to improve operational processes critical to high quality, efficient, patient and family-centered care by leveraging Lean Six Sigma and change management methodologies. The Operational Excellence Coach will serve as a process improvement resource for the organization, assisting in the development of standards, tools and training. He/she will play a key role in sustaining and spreading the outcomes of improvement projects.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with site and regional managers to lead the development of improvement action plans to implement and sustain standard workflows that best serve our customers (staff, providers, and patients)
  • Collects and analyzes process data, identifies opportunities, develops solutions, implements improvements and helps operational management ensure sustainability.  Assists in the creation of metrics to monitor performance, operational improvements and financial benefit
  • Leads and manages a portfolio of projects, from initiation to completion, that support the organizational care delivery and process improvement strategies to ensure high quality, efficient, patient and family-centered care
  • Leads or contributes to the development of program or project scope statements, in consultation with applicable stakeholders (e.g., program/project charter); ensure that all impacted areas are identified, and that appropriate resources are engaged to participate in the scope definition process
  • Implements and complies with change management processes to drive effective project execution
  • Resolves conflicts around project participants using appropriate influence techniques, escalating to others as needed
  • Builds effective relationships and communicate regularly with sponsors, clinical and operational leaders, team members and other stakeholders about project status, activities and progress 
  • Ensures that project management principles are applied on every project; develop and maintain project plans for each initiative; provide up-to-date status reports; help to identify and resolve project issues; collaborate with other leaders to manage the resources for each project; and follows procedures for project closure
  • Partners closely with Operational Excellence Leaders, Regional Operational Leadership, and Clinical Leadership to maintain alignment and synergy across initiatives; provide dedicated support to quickly and effectively deliver projects that are within budget, on-time, and within scope

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of project management and/or process improvement experience 
  • Experience using Lean Six Sigma or other improvement methodologies 
  • Proven solid interpersonal and facilitation skills
  • Proven solid quantitative skills
  • Proven exemplary written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven analytical and critical thinking abilities 
  • Ability to travel 50% of the time within the CT market

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a healthcare environment, particularly in an ambulatory or physician practice setting
  • Experience managing multiple projects across disciplines
  • Process improvement experience with demonstrated results executing process improvement projects using traditional methodologies (Lean Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis, and PDSA)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Visio, and Smartsheets 

Connecticut Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $70,200 to $137,800 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
