Enterprise Technology Infrastructure, Platforms & Services (ETIPS) delivers services and operational support to meet business integration objectives. As a Senior Manager, Information Security you will focus on firewall security for core infrastructure and cloud experience across the enterprise including our global locations. You will manage the Security Firewall team responsible for overseeing and supporting Optum Security Infrastructure including defining and aligning security policies, strategy, standards and controls, risk management, 3rd party risk, assessments, baseline security controls as well as technology compliance initiatives. This includes completing projects, ensure the resilience of the business against ever-evolving cyber threats, controlling business processes, and maintain effective capability maturation in support of the business and build out of core and cloud environments. You will be responsible for hiring, developing, leading, and motivating an engineering team including performance management and coaching a cross-section of security and technology professionals and managers.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Managing and driving a team of security engineers including cybersecurity team leads and individual contributors through mentoring, coaching, providing guidance and expertise, and promoting continued integration of technological advances to further enhance security 
  • Serves in a managerial capacity, ensuring the formulation and implementation of procedures and systems; providing forecasting and planning input 
  • Empowers architecture and infrastructure security staff in the successful performance of their tasks and responsibilities while encouraging innovation 
  • Determine the severity and complexity of issues pertaining to the security and protection of systems data, (autonomously or as part of a team) to ensure the protections, conservation, and accountability of proprietary, personal, or privileged electronic data  
  • Oversee network security best practices and standards are executed through auditing: change controls, process documentation, firewall configurations, and monitoring 
  • Evaluates analysis of solutions and innovative approaches to complex issues, as well as complex conceptual analysis, ensuring implementation 
  • Plans, conducts, and respond to internal and external cyber security audits and questionnaires; interprets and documents audit results; recommends and implements corrective actions 
  • Collaborates and offers managerial direction to other managers, project managers, architects, and technical leads for continuity and communication to ensure mitigation of security risks across the enterprise 
  • Defines, implements, audits, and maintains firewall security policies ensuring mitigation of risks to the IT infrastructure as well as the company 
  • On-call responsibilities include the ability to work irregular hours to respond to and support high priority security incidents/issues

Required Qualifications:  

  • 8+ years of technical experience working in IT security operations center and/or related functions such as IT security management and architecture 
  • 5+ years of experience in Next Gen firewall engineering (Ex: Palo Alto) 
  • 5+ years of experience in cyber security including analyzing, auditing, documenting, researching, and developing security policies, standards, and procedures  
  • 5+ years of experience with security network devices (switches, antivirus, proxies, IPSs, WAF, firewalls, cryptography, SIEM) and other security networking hardware or software tools 
  • 5+ years of experience managing/leading a team of direct reports 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Computer Science, information technology or related discipline)  
  • Professional security certification(s) (ex. CISSP) 
  • Demonstrate ability to anticipate and handle critical situations, negotiating solutions, resolving conflicts, and driving projects to completion
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, as well as communicate with high-level management
  • Solid knowledge of Palo Alto firewalls and Panorama in large enterprise environments 
  • Deep understanding network security principles, including firewall configurations, network traffic analysis and risk management
  • Outstanding organizational, communication, interpersonal and leadership skills

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
